I currently 18 weeks pregnant and last night I had a very strong paid under my rib cage on the right hand side.
went to the emergency midwife lead unit and the doctor said it’s nothing to do with pregnancy but it’s likely to be a gallbladder problem. I’ve never ever had that before so perplexed why now? Has anyone experienced similar problems?
thanks 💖 xx

I just gave birth 10 days ago and was going to acupuncture throughout my pregnancy. The acupuncturist mentioned that my liver and gallbladder were getting more “sluggish” as the pregnancy progressed and recommended I drink dandelion root tea to help support the gallbladder, and also to limit the amount of fatty foods I ate.
No one could tell me why things got sluggish - I think it’s just one of those random things that happens in pregnancy - but all was fine in the end. If you’re so inclined, I would ask your midwife about the dandelion root tea and also look into other pregnancy-safe bitters that increase bile production, since gallbladder issues are often related to low bile production.
I just bought some dandelion tea today as I read up on it thank you 💖 also been grocery shopping and replaced everything with low fat version and talked to my husband about stopping to get me sweets all the time 😅🙈. It’s so unexpected isn’t it, how things change during pregnancy. Xx
Hi Ggg555. Sorry to know you had GB pain, it can be hard. Hormones that increase in pregnancy lead to release of mire bile acids which liver finds difficult to process, and hence the cycle of sluggish flow through liver and gall bladder. I would advise keeping a check on it by getting in touch with your GP. They can do some baseline Liver Function Tests and/or ultrasound to know how it's all working there. Please be aware of any further pain episodes, changes to your skin color, and itching. All the best.
I have swelling and pain under my breasts and rib cage pain. If I look sideways my bump almost looks like a number 3 and I am 16wks. I had a private scan to check gallbladder and it looked clear, I have another appointment this week and can update you. I was told it is potentially because organs are being pushed up to make space for the baby. X
My pain is getting worse and they checked for gallbladder but nothing. Did the doctor give you anymore advice? Spoke to the midwife and they say it’s not to do with pregnancy. Though I’m likely to turn up to their walk-in clinic tomorrow if it continues to get worse overnight.
