Hello,

I was just wondering if there is anyone who has experienced this and how your pregnancy progressed if you did please?

I had my check up 2 weeks ago at 17w and the first thing my doctor said was I won't be going back to work (I live in Austria and we truly are blessed with an excellent maternity system). I'm on pelvic rest and progesterone pessaries. And got a follow up appointment today regarding the possibility of having a band fitted to support the weight of the baby.

Has anyone else had this and how did you get on with it please?

I'm trying not to worry but after doing a lot of research the chances are 1 in 2 that the baby with be premature. This is our 3rd ivf transfer miracle baby, I'd only just started to relax and really enjoy this pregnancy after numerous hematomas at the start and now I'm back to being afraid that we may lose it again.

Hi PoppyAmber. Hope all continues to go well with your pregnancy. They may suggest having a stich inserted in the cervix if any cause for concern. I'm sure they will watch you closely. godd luck! Diane

Hello Diane,Thank you ☺️ yes last night I was fitted with a Cervical Pessary. I definitely feel mentally a little more secure having it than not. Just fingers crossed now that 👶🏼 stays in there until we're out of the danger zone 🤞🏻☺️.

Thank you for your message X x

Diane, can you answer something for me about this topic? If you're diagnosed with a weak/short cervix in 2nd trimester, does that mean your cervix has always been shorter than usual, OR could it look normal length on internal exams etc pre-pregnancy but during pregnancy it changes to BECOME shorter and therefore weaker? I don't have a particular reason to worry about this but have become a bit anxious about the whole idea of not knowing whether cervical weakness could be an issue (as I gather doctors don't routinely check for it usually, unless you've already had losses or had surgery) x

Hi AuroraXen. It is most probably something you were born with, unless you have had any surgeries on your cervix in the past. Good that is has been spotted so that appropriate care is now in place. Your specialist or midwife should be able to explain further. Diane

Thanks Diane. Sorry if I wasn't clear there, I haven't actually been diagnosed with this myself: it's just something I've been wondering about (I did have a polyp removed from my cervix 2 years ago and I started panicking - as i do about everything- that I might end up being one of the people this happens to! So I just wanted to ask the question 😘Thank you for your reply)

Hi. Having a polyp removed is just fine. It is now out of the way when inserting pessaries, which could have irritated it. Looks like all is good to go and no worries with your cervix. Diane

Hi Poppy, really sorry to hear you having to go through this! I've been in a similar situation having had a cone biopsy on my cervix years ago which had left my cervix really short. Managed to convince my doctors to put a shirodkar stitch in at 23 weeks as I was paranoid after multiple losses. As a consequence baby was then delivered via c- section 3 weeks ago at 39w+1 just 3 weeks ago. I know it's very scary and worrying, but this is the safest thing to do! Keeping my fingers crossed for you and congratulations on your pregnancy! x
