migraines in pregnancy

Hi all! I hope you are all alright! Is anyone suffering with migraines in pregnancy? I am 25 weeks pregnant and I just don't know what to do anymore! Paracetamol works just for a little while and I am scared to take it all the time. I did acupuncture before Ivf and it worked for a while. I tried it again a couple weeks ago and I felt really sick. I am going to try massage soon but everyone is so booked up. Anyone having the same problem? xxx

I had this issue during my pregnancy and it was horrendous! I used cold packs as there really wasn't much else I could do. We fashioned a type of hat out of cold packs or I stuffed them inside a beanie and wedged it on my head! I found that a cold pillow helped too, we got one from JML I think and you keep it in the fridge. Also cooling eye masks helped, again you keep them in the fridge. I really feel your pain and hope you can find something that works! Good luck!

Hi I’m only 5 plus 5 weeks pregnant and I’ve been getting the ocular migraines with the vision disturbance. I’ve not had these since I was a teenager ! It’s panicking me as I’ve had one yesterday and just one now ( I had one last Monday as well). So 3 in 8 days. Have you had them the whole way through ? Do you take paracetamol ? X x

Me too!!!! Same as that - I had 2 last week. I used to get them when I was on the pill in my 20s....I resisted taking anything. But had to take time off work....

Hi! I didn't have them to start with, but after about 12 weeks of pregnancy they came back. Paracetamol works sometimes but just for a little while. x

I had real problems with this too. I did find that once I got further in then things got better. Forehead stick helped a lot, as did a hot shower with my head and eyes under hot water. I was scared to take paracetamol like you but I hard to....in normal life paracetamol wouldn't have helped my headaches but it actually did....my other thing which I know isn't great was diet coke. I'm not advising this and I'm not a huge caffeine drinker but it did help....I've no idea why but others found it useful on Google which is where I got the idea.xxx

Thanks for your reply! I did reduce the caffeine since I am pregnant, I still have a little bit, I am not sure if this has an effect on my head. I hope it is going to get better xx

I cut coffee right out so the only bits I got was from the juice. I had treatment in Greece and they were shocked I gave up coffee....they have a massive coffee culture over there and they said it would be ok to drink?!🤦🏼‍♀️ It does settle down as the progesterone levels settle, hang on in there.xxx

Hi lovely. So sorry you’re struggling with this! I had ocular migraines in the first 14 weeks but they eventually went away and now I just get regular headaches. I found the best thing was just sitting in a dark room with something cold on my forehead and listening to an audiobook to distract me from the discomfort. The other thing that helped was using a shiatsu shoulder massager: I guess it at least helped my neck relax and also took my mind off my head! Xxx
