I have taken melatonin in pregnancy but a very low dose (1mg) and only sporadically. It wasn’t prescribed, i just had some left over from IVF (imported back when they weren’t stopping it at customs). I am sensitive to melatonin and 3mg actually has the opposite effect, so if you find it doesn’t help you could try to take a smaller dose if possible but talk to your doctor . Unfortunately insomnia in pregnancy is extremely common at all stages for differing reasons. My best advice is to be as scrupulous with sleep hygiene as possible (no screens within an hr of bed, try reading before bed, keep lighting relatively low (just enough to read by), keep room cool). You could also try tryptophan rich foods before bed-I used to eat a slice of turkey and a banana with peanut butter. If you can tolerate dairy, a glass of warm milk with it. When you wake at night and can’t get back to sleep, you’d be better trying to read for a bit than lying in the dark feeling annoyed (I have chronic insomnia so I know this one well!). And try to calmly tell yourself you’ll fall back to sleep eventually (sometimes this does actually help). There are mindfulness apps like Mindset that have good sessions for sleep. Or you could try listening to an audiobook to help you drift back off-Harry Potter read byStephen Fry is a good one. As with all things pregnancy and child related, remember it’s temporary (‘this too shall pass’ is your new mantra!). Xx

Many thanks for your kind reply. I have also come with IVF. I used to take melatonin 3mg before my treatment. It helped me alot. My dr recommended to take 3mg a day. How ever, i studied and searched in different websites that melatonin has a negative effect on pregnancy. Thats why cant rely on it. Thanks for your advice about sleep issues.Wish yu a happy merry Christmas ❤️

I did have melatonin when I was pregnant but only when I totally couldn't sleep. The first trimester was the worst for me in regard to sleep. I found that using lavander essential oils in a diffuser relaxed me and helped me sleep better. Wish you all the best and a healthy pregnancy. x
