Do progesterone injections cause pregnancy nausea?

Hi all, I’m 8w5d and feeling very grateful to be pregnant 💕 I am however, feeling so so nauseous all the time. Even during the night now too.

It does give me some comfort as I know it means baby is growing but I was just wondering if my Prontagest shots are making my nausea worse? Will it improve when I stop them at 12 weeks? Anyone have a similar experience?

Gem xx

I had 24/7 nausea but I’m afraid it did not improve with cessation of progesterone (it went slowly after about 24 weeks). However, I’m sure I have seen it improve for others so hopefully it will get better soon! You can get safe meds from the GP if it is stopping you eating. I just used Fever Tree ginger beer, ginger biscuits, soda water, and bedside salted pretzels for nighttime wakeups. Hope you feel better soon xx

Thank you so much! It’s definitely not stopping me eating - currently eating ALLLLLL the carbs to help it subside. Did you have injections too? 24 weeks - aaarrgghh!! How awful! 🤢

I was on Lubion injections as well as pessaries. Carbs are definitely the best with morning sickness! xx

I’m afraid stopping prontogest didn’t stop my nausea I was sick until 18 weeks with my son. Slightly better this pregnancy. Just do what you can do get through it, for me that’s constant grazing if I’m hungry it’s so much worse. I sleep with ginger biscuits next to the bed!

Thank you for replying 💕 I guess I will just grin and bear it whilst eating all the carbs. 🤢😩xxxx

As soon as it stopped for me last time I felt incredible, full of energy and people kept telling me I had the glow so I promise it will get better it’s just a question of when! Xx

Thanks for asking this question, I am not sure if it is hunger or nausea and am so confused. I was just googling this today morning. So grateful to know there is an a time this will stop and we may have a glow. :)

Good to hear you are still able to eat well and load on carbs for this timeframe. Wishing you the best. 💕💕❤️❤️😂😂

I'm feeling the same! I'm not actually been sick, but just feeling nauseous, which gets worse when I'm hungry.Salted pretzels are keeping me going throughout the day.

The worst for me is, that any form of liquid makes me feel nauseous - I've tried water, lemon water, ginger tea, peppermint tea, fruit juice. Really struggling to drink my 2l a day 🤦🏼‍♀️

Secretly I'm quite happy to have this feeling as I take it as a good sign the little embryo is doing well x

That’s a nightmare about the liquid!! Hope that gets better soon.I know what you mean, if I have a good day, I’m like ‘why don’t I feel sick?!?!?’ Then it comes back with a vengeance….😂xxxx

I wasn't on progesterone injections, but I had daily pessaries and gel and noticed that my nausea almost always coincided with using the medication. My clinic gave me the all clear to use up what I had in and then stop. I've been off the progesterone for two days and my nausea is pretty much gone - talked to my midwife at the booking appointment today and she says it's very common for progesterone medication to increase or even cause nausea.100% agree that the carbs are a solution! I was constantly eating toast and breadsticks. I also found a drink with fizz helped - either plain tonic water or some flavoured sparkling water (nothing at all exciting!).

congratulations :)...I was on progesterone and had zero nausea so not sure whether it is a side effect of progesterone. I had some lightheadedness, mild headaches and cravings but not much else. Good luck...hopefully it will abate at around 12 weeks

Hmm it’s probably just morning sickness. It’s definitely the worst part. Hopefully it’ll start to go in a couple of weeks. If you’re able to eat carbs to feel better that’s not so bad. I struggled to eat anything really. Crisps and pale food seemed to be the only thing I could manage. Ginger biscuits did help in the night

I had it 24/7 from 5 weeks through to end of second trimester unfortunately. When I stopped progesterone my headaches went almost immediately as did bad stomach, but the morning sickness stubbornly remained. It got quite depressing at times and I didn't find much that helped, maybe eating just little and often, beige food and for some reason I could have a surprising amount of ice cream vs anything else! It came and went in third trimester but when I felt well I felt incredible and everyone kept commenting on how well I looked and seemed - for many women I think third trimester is the worst so I just did it back to front I guess :) It's tough and I struggled with work but it's just a memory now. If it gets really bad though see your GP as you need to be careful not to get dehydrated and as you progress that you're getting enough calories and nutrients.

I'm 14 weeks now and still suffering unfortunately. I was really hoping once I'd stopped taking the progesterone pessaries i would feel much better - but it didn't change. That said, i'm still holding on to the hope that i'm going to wake up any day now and bounce out of bed instead of gag! x

Thank you for replying 💕 do you have days when you feel fine? I’m having one now and it’s freaking me out…

Oooh you lucky thing! I haven't had a day when i've felt fine but i do sometimes get a couple of hours. I do know that if i suddenly wake up feeling ok that I'll then worry something's wrong! Dx

Do you think I should worry?

No no sorry! I meant that's how my head works -- worry when i feel ill then worry when i don't. It is supposed to lift at some point ....and most people I've spoken to say they've had days when they feel great xx
