exercise in early pregnancy

Just wondered what everyone thought on exercising in early pregnancy? I’m a support worker and some service users love long walks and I’m down to go on a long walk next Friday and just wanted to check if there’s any issues? He usually goes out walking for a good few hours! Should I bring this up with my manager or would this be okay?

Hi Ziggy, i was always told exercise is good in early pregnancy as long as it's not too sttenous and also dependent on what your body is used to.... Dont start training for a marathon.... Walking is good, you are meant to do 150min exercise per week according to the NHS.I'd say as long as it's a gentle walk and not fast/climbing up mountains etc and you can hold a conversation you should be absolutely fine xx (obviously never do anything you feel you might regret)

Long walks are perfect! As long as you're feeling comfortable and aren't putting extra strain on your body. I think the advice is generally don't start doing something new (except for walking if you don't usually!) So if your body is already used to long walks with your service users that sounds ideal. You'll feel better for it, assuming you're not pushing yourself. Xx

Yup, long walks are great, especially if already part of your exercising. Routinely used to do epic walks during the various lockdowns while pregnant, was a great way to get outside and not feel like I was just sitting there expanding 😆 Would definitely say enjoy the long walks while you can, because it'll be a (very beautiful) long waddle soon enough! x

Hey ZiggyandBC,Just echoing the others' advice. The nurses encouraged exercise as long as it wasn't a new type.

I'd just add, don't be afraid to ask your service user to sit on a bench or rest if you need to. Listen to your body. You can make an excuse like you've been having a bit of back pain recently or something... x

Thank you everyone! I think I’m just being over cautious! I’m googling everything I do to make sure it’s safe, even things that I eat that I know is fine! 😂
