So I started spotting brown on Monday only very mild nothing like the last bleed & spotting. I can’t get through to the epu and I’ve just changed doctors so no midwife till tomorrow. I am just over 15wks

First question…..did you generally feel uncomfortable in your uterus during pregnancy. I would say I have twinges and pulling generally a bit uncomfortable but nothing overly painful.

I am a little worried but not to the point I feel the need to go to a&e

Anyone had general brown spotting during pregnancy?

I don't know about the spotting but around 15/16 weeks I started getting round ligament pain. It's your uterus and ligaments expanding. Felt like someone was stretching the bottom of my bump and a bit like a pulled muscle. It was really quite uncomfortable, but not painful like cramps. Could it be that? If so then it's nothing to worry about, just making room for bubs x

Thanks lovely I think some of it is definitely ligament pain. I constantly know something is going on in that uterus if you know what I mean. It’s uncomfortable to say the least xx

Yes on spotting/bleeding, constantly from when I came of progesterone. And I had cramps. Midwives said brown is ok and spotting and bleeding is quite common, probably a withdrawal/hormone issue from the meds, and only to call back if there was quite a bit and it went red - both happened and I called and ran through triage and was still told it all sounded ok. As it went on for weeks, I did eventually ask to speak to a consultant and they got me in straight away; what I was worried about was an incompetent cervix as it stopped every time I used progesterone pessaries. They did tests and eventually found it was from my cervix but all ok (not an incompetent cervix or anything sinister) and no risk to the pregnancy, just some strange growth, possibly endometriosis. They now monitor it every so often to make sure it hasn't changed. So it was fine, but I was so relieved to know what was causing it and that they're keeping an eye on it. I also got really bad round ligament pains quite early on - they could be anything from a dull stitch-like ache to really painful, come out of nowhere and stop you in your tracks if you over exerted yourself (or sneezed!) I think they can come on at any stage or throughout, and really vary. But best to get everything checked out and don't worry about pushing to see a doctor or consultant if you're worried x

Thank you! That’s really informative. I am hoping the midwife phones today or I might have to go up to the epu to get checked. Haven’t had a appointment through yet for the preterm labour team which is worrying xx

Have you had your “12” week scan (I know they’re not always at 12 weeks) and was everything from that all okay? I haven’t had spotting but like the others i had heard that brown spotting shouldn’t be too much worry and can happen. Are you on progesterone supplements? I think even a small amount of blood can come as around now the cervix can be irritated

Yeah I’ve had a few scans and all is well. I am still on one progesterone but I use the other door because of my last bleed at 12wks. They couldn’t find a reason last time so I am clueless xx

I had both spotting and cramps at 15 weeks. I got a scan at EPU and all was fine. It’s all very worrying when you don’t know what’s going on but try not to stress…I say this but I was not very good at it! X

That’s what it is it’s not knowing why! It’s not got any worse but it’s not quite stopping. I may give it till tomorrow and just turn up at the epu xx

I had it twice in 2 weeks. The first time EPU just told me to monitor it for 48 hours and see if it reduced or stopped, and it did. The second time they just said to come in and be checked and saw me within 36 hours of calling, over a weekend which I thought was pretty good! They couldn’t see any reason for the bleeding and the baby was fine and thankfully I’m now 20 weeks at the weekend and haven’t had it again.

Oh am glad it stopped for you! What a worry. Happy 20wks 💖 It’s not been as much this afternoon so fingers crossed it’s stopping 🤞🏼 Got my preterm labour appointment through too 🙌🏼 It’s such a worrying time right!?!?! Xx

I hope you’re ok. I had a bleed at 15weeks and have had spotting since. I am now 16+2. Had private scan and baby was fine. I’ve been told by my consultant that bleeds are common around this stage. Hope everything goes ok with your check ups xx

Hey lovely 💗 thanks for replying. So sorry your dealing with it too 😕. I went and got checked 👍🏽 Everything was ok still can’t explain the bleed/spotting. Had an anti d injection and they checked my cervix length. It stopped the day after I was checked ☺️ They just told me always go in to get checked xx

Glad to hear everything is ok. I did the same and went into hospital but they weren’t too sure either on where the bleeding came from or why. Mine was fresh red blood and a fair amount but was told it could be my cervix getting irritated so that’s what I put it down to. I agree that it’s always best to go in and get it checked….best for our peace of mind. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x
