Stopping meds cold turkey - help please!

Hello,

I had FET back in March and am so delighted to be 12 weeks tomorrow, I then have my 12 week scan at 12 weeks 2 days. I have had one very early miscarriage/chemical previously from a natural pregnancy. My daily meds are 2x cyclogest progesterone pessaries and 2 oestrogen patches which I replace every 4 days.

My clinic told me there's no need to continue after 12 weeks. They have not told me to gradually reduce it, just to stop. Like so many other people I'm terrified! Has anyone else done this successfully who has been on similar medication / had a similar context to me?

I don't know whether to just take my last ones tomorrow and then have nothing from 12 weeks 1 day, or to keep going to the scan on 12 weeks 2 days. I'm then flying on holiday at 12 weeks 3 days to add to the anxiety! I'm probably overthinking everything 🫣

Hey lovely, congrats!

I personally weaned myself off over a week with estrogen from 10 weeks & cyclogest from 11 weeks, but my clinic said it was completely fine to just stop. I know many others on this forum have gone cold turkey and they were absolutely fine. So if your clinic told you to do so, I'm sure it's perfectly fine.

If you're worried & have some meds left, I don't think there's any harm in weaning yourself off. Whichever way that reduces your anxiety is probably the best xxx

Hi, congratulations! 💕 I don't have any experience in this yet, but my clinic told me the only reason is good to weaning off because suddenly stopping hormones can have a side effect, but I am on 2 progesterone injections a day, 3 cyclogest, 4 estrogen so quite a lot to suddenly stop but they said it won't affect the baby... But I think its best to talk to your clinic...

Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy!

Hi, congratulations!! 🥳

I was in the exact same position as you. Two miscarriages and a chemical pregnancy.

For this FET I was put on estrogen, tinzaparin (blood thinner injection), lubion and cyclogest. I was told I should stop at 12 weeks. Terrified, I did some searching on here and found posts that did reassure me a little!

Anyway, I did as instructed and I’m currently 30 weeks pregnant. Other than a headache which lasted around 4 weeks (not sure if related or not) everything was fine.

Hope this helps to reassure you. Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy xx
