safe pain meds for surgery

I was recently diagnosed with NAFLD and have a F0/1 score on the fibroscan. I have Upper Right Quadrant symptoms and high liver enzymes and extremely high ferritin. My treatment protocol is weight-loss and exercise (from a gastroenterologist). I’ve had this condition for at least 6 years, no one said a word till my liver reacted to prep for a colonoscopy that I could not do… and although this condition (NAFLD) showed up on previous scans, when I asked about it I was told nothing about the condition… nothing at all… even with high enzymes! Glucose! And tri’s!! On to my question. I have an unrelated lapryscopic surgery scheduled soon. I know Tylenol and ibuprofen aren’t safe for my liver, which is a little inflamed still… I exercise daily and have always been a healthy eater… now I’m strict and never a food cheater (this site has been great help). . What pain meds are safe? I’m willing to forgo pain meds if there is nothing that won’t impact my liver.

I had high ferritin and high iron, not good for the liver and I had phlebotomies by a hematologist to lower the iron. There is no ideal pain med. Most hepatologists will say Tylenol if you must but no more than 2,000 mg / day. I personally try to avoid. As a check, you might see what your FIB4 score is. It is now being recommended to gauge the risk of advanced fibrosis. Here is a link

A bit confusing. Your surgery will be under Propofol, one would expect and there will be a pre-op screen for severe liver disease. Mild to moderate liver disease non cirrhosis tolerates surgery well. I think what you're asking is post op pain meds. Your doc or surgeon will be able to talk to you about this. Liver patients needing surgery are very common now that NAFLD has become so prevalent. They will know what post op drugs are well tolerated by the liver, and at what dosage.

I have ferritin levels currently 482. I’ve had it as high as 585 but the doctors didn’t even tell me. I found out by looking at my lab results. Is there anything I can do to reduce them? Do you know the underlying reasons they might be high?
