Hi guys, I posted a few weeks ago but things aren’t any better. My 7 year old daughter has now been impacted for 6 weeks. She has been on the max dose of 12 sachets of laxido for over 3 weeks. She was also on the max dose of Senna but the GP has now changed this to Lactulose. The soiling hasn’t changed consistency since we started (she has large accidents in her sleep).
The last GP we saw has now referred her to a paediatrician. We are seeing a private one on Friday otherwise it would have taken another month or two.
Has anyone else known macrogol + stimulants not to work? I’m making the sachets up correctly, spoken to Eric twice, seen 5 GPs, read every article, watched every video and listened to every podcast on constipation going.
She has now lost so much weight. I’m wondering if there is an underlying cause such as IBS or Coeliac disease.
What will the next step be? Enemas? Surgery? She’s now on her 4th week of missed school too.

What did the Dr change from to the lactulose? Lactulose is pretty ineffective. Ask for sodium picosulphate rather than senna. What are stools like at the moment, what do they look like? You could request an enema but still continue with the osmotic laxative and stimulant laxative.
She was on Senna and he changed it to lactulose. I was warned that with both stimulants she would probably get cramping which she hasn’t done. Her stools are lumpy gravy (which they have been to 6 weeks) but her soiling is worse at night when she’s asleep and can’t use the toilet. Her spine, ribs, shoulder and collarbones are all on show and relatives are now noticing the dramatic weight loss. I really hope the paediatrician we see on Friday can do something.
Lactulose is not a stimulant you need to change to a stimulant. It's clear your Dr isn't clued up.on this. Ask to speak to another Dr and familiarise yourself with the nice guidelines on treating constipation in children.
