Mixing up laxido

Hi everyone, about to embark on our disimpaction journey and I have a couple of questions about using the meds (laxido), particularly as we get into the higher dosed days.

1. I know we need to make sure my daughter risk getting 600ml -800ml of fluid each day on top of the liquid the laxido is mixed into. Should these non-medicated drinks be given separately or can we top up the laxido - E.g. mix up a sachet with 63ml water and then add 100ml squash to the same drink?

2. Should we give doses one at a time (if so, any tips on how to space them out?) , or can we combine some? E.g. when up to 6 sachets should we give with six different drinks, or could one drink contain 2 sachets?

Thanks!

As long as you mix it up with the correct amount of water first before you can add it to anything else afterwards and any additional liquid will be counted towards their daily allowance. You can give them all at once or space them out. The earlier smaller doses in the regime can be given together, as you increase the doses you may find spacing them out is easier to be consumed, whatever works best for you eric.org.uk/pdf-how-to-prep...

Hi rachelsf , as Yaleamanda says, mix with the 63ml water first. The powder will combine with the water to create molecules that are too big to be absorbed into the body, thus staying in the bowel to be absorbed into the poo. You can add extra fluid, which would could towards her daily fluid intake. Could I just check the amount of daily water/squash? it's 6-8 cups per day, cup size relevant to the age. For example, a 2 year old should be having 900mls per day. The laxido doesn't have a timed effect, (unlike stimulant laxatives) so whether she has a spoonful of a cupful, it will still go to her bowel. I wouild suggest mixing it all up in the morning and just giving it as and when you can, it wont make any difference how much she has in one go.

Some GP's do prescribe a stimulant laxative as well, to use once the poo is softened. This will help move things along. Hopefully we've talked to you about timed toileting and relaxed position, rewarding for the sit and not the poo etc. Good luck with the disimpaction, I'm sure she will feel much better afterwards. Hi Sarah, we spoke to Fiona who recommended she should have 6-8 drinks per day in addition to the laxido mix. I asked how much constituted ‘a drink’ for her age (she is a small 3 year old) and Fiona advised about 100ml per drink, so 600-800ml per day on top of the laxido mix, and that’s what we are working to - is that not correct? We have been told about timed toileting and position but she isn’t toilet trained yet so still in nappies, and I assume all that is all more relevant after disimpaction? She doesn’t seem to be struggling with going while taking the medicine.

We combine 2 sachets in each 'medicine drink time', so we are having 4 double Laxido drinks a day at the moment. After adding correct amount of water we add blueberry juice (as preferred by our son) and he drinks it with a straw. The rest of the time he has water to drink.
