Mood Swings

Recently I have been experiencing a lot of mood swings. I am on Prostap at the moment... just wondering if anyone else on Prostap or Zoladex are experiencing the same issues. Does anyone have any good tips on how to control these mood swings? :(

it is definitely part of the side effects of the drugs, and my advice is to print off the drug side effects hand them over to all family and close chums who witness your moods with an "I'm so sorry it's the drugs not the real me" card, and basically steer clear of everyone while you go through the mood swings if at all possible.

Your temporary mood swings (which can be very severe and cause arguments and anger and family rifts) should improve a lot after the drug is out of your system, but that can be faster to resolve than any rifts that are allowed to develop because the people you are arguing with don't actually understand what has caused tour change in personality and character.

It's rather scary to be in such a frame of mind when you know it isn't you, isn't normal and there's nothing you can do to escape it while it happens. Best thing is to avoid confrontation by taking yourself away from any tense situations, and profusely apologise to anyone you have had picked on.

My poor mum got must of my temper, but she did know it was the drugs, because it was so completely out of character for me.

Thank you for answering back.... I know what you mean... I've taken out my anger on my mum a few times but she knows its not me but i feel bad because sometimes my family can get annoyed. one minute i'm happy and then suddenly i'm all depressed and this could be from just making toast :s

Hi,

I haven't taken those drugs but I did have to stop taking birth control for the same reason.

Until I realised what was causing the problem I thought I was going insane! I'd get so angry i'd lash out at my partner or even head butt walls. It would start over the smallest of things! If someone cut infront of me whilst I was driving, my face would turn bright red and my heart would start pounding i'd get so angry! Next thing I new I'd be crying at an ad for nappies on the radio! Sometimes deep breaths and counting to ten would help. Try to always think of 5 things to be greatful for when you get down.

Hope things pick up for you xxx

Hi, I've just had my sixth zoladex injection on 30 jan. I've struggled tremendously with mood swings and this had got worse with more injections I had.

I've suffered from anxiety and depression in the past, and kept telling myself "it's the zoladex not me" however when I last saw my GP I confided how it was affecting me and my relationships with those around me and he suggested taking Citalopram 20mg a day. This is an anti depressant which helps with feelings of anxiety. I've only been taking it 2 weeks so its early days. My GP did say the affects of the zoladex can take weeks to leave your system, I'm also waiting for an op which is worrying me too.

You're not alone, I wanted to let you know that it's a common side affect and I understand how you feel. X

thank you Edsmom... it is a horrible feeling, I hate these mood changes and its like the more times i have Prostap the more stronger its getting. yesterday i was in a very good mood and today i feel so depressed again. There's not even a specific reason for it.

Good luck on your op everything will be fine :) try to think about the positive outcomes :)

I've got a doctors appointment later to talk about my symptoms so i will see what they have to say about it.

It's my first time since i've been diagnosed with Endometriosis that I've spoken to people about my symptoms so thank you for replying as it does really help xx

Thank you for your kind words, even telling your GP about how you're feeling may help. Hope you have more good days than bad. Xxx
