I'm due to have a total abdominal hysterectomy within the next few months. I'm 29, has anyone else had one at roughly this age? What was your recovery like? I've got two little boys aged 2 and 3. I'm a stay at home Mum and was told my husband will need to have 3 mths off work to look after the children as I won't be able to lift them.

Hysterectomy at 30?
Are you having it for endo? I would recommend doing A LOT of research, as it isn't a cure for endo, and there are a lot of potential nasty side effects from having one done so early...
Hi, it's mainly being done as I have really heavy painful periods, I do have endo and know this isn't a cure. It isn't a decision I've made lightly. In the last 10 yrs the only thing that has managed to stop my periods was the decapeptyl injections. I'm just after advice from anyone who has had the op at a young age with young children really x
I had mine at 29, and my youngest was 18 months.and yes what you have been told is true. You DO need to follow those instructions or you will end up back in hospital with a prolapse. For those first 6 weeks, dont lift anything!!!!! so you will need alot of help. The first 6 weeks are the worst, you will be weak, tired and in pain. after that you can start pottering about. Gentle excerise. Its things like sitting down to do the ironing, don't stand for long peroids of time. etc..
I suffered alot of trapped wind which didn't help. Honestly it was the best days work the doctor did. Unfortunatley for me i have had to go back in twice for growths. but i like to think that had he not do my hysterectomy my pain/tolerance/quality of life would be some much less than it is now. If you want to talk give me a shout. Best of luck. xxxxxx
I'm 35 and just had a subtotal hysterectomy with ovaries taken 2 weeks ago. But my youngest child is 10, my husband saved his leave up to have a month off and is in a job where he can work reduced hours after he has used his holiday for the same wage.
For me, at this time, the decision was right, but there is no was I can see myself in the state of being able to do very little with toddlers, even my 10 year old finds its hard sometimes to not be as close or squeezy with me ATM.
You will need to look at your situation and weigh up the pros and cons at this time in your life to if you can wait longer :-\
Sorry I've not been helpful good luck x x
Thank you for your comments ladies. My husband is in the Navy so we will have to arrange compassionate leave. He also has a lot of leave outstanding which he will take. I don't think there will ever be an ideal time to have this op but quality of life wise, the sooner the better x
Hi I have just turned 37 and have two children 13 and 14 so older than yours and am 13 weeks down the line from my hysterectomy. I run a pub with my husband so am lucky in the respect that my husband is home with me all the time. You will not be able to lift anything heavy for 6-8 weeks and even after that you still need to be by careful.on the plus side as I said I'm 13 weeks into recovery and feel fantastic! Hope all goes very well for you xxxxxx
If your main problem is periods, then I would suggest you ask about endometrial ablation before going the whole hog so to speak. I had it done over a year ago, and it completely cured my miserable 3-week long periods... also, zero recovery time and very very minor surgery...
