Hi, I had total hysterectomy at 32 due to severe endometriosis. I was told then that it would be a cure. Yes no periods but have lived in constant pain for the last 24years with period like pains and chronic back pain. I know that much more is known about endo now but would I recommend it. Definitely not. You are wise to do your research. No 2 people are the same but I regret it now. It’s only my opinion. Hope this helps.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Yeah I know that people are not the same and especially the way that I react is not 'normal'. My gynae said the other day that I am an engima and that the way I react is one on my own.
But there are a few things I need to research and think through thanks for your story. Xxxx
What I should have added is that drs are not sure if endo has come back or whether it was not all removed at time of hysterectomy. Had terrible week with it. So my question is do you ever truly get rid of it. I read that it can regenerate itself and that combined hrt feeds it. As I said do your research. Good luck. Xx
Thank you. Yes I think it is always a tricky one as you never really know if its back or regrowth or just the leftover of it being there in the first place.
Definitely will continue to do my research before any decision. 😊
I am 42 year old 10 weeks post op. I had a total hysterectomy so its all gone. I started hrt 10days. I was offerd a hysterectomy at 28 and then again at 35. I just was not ready back then. I am so far endo pain free. Its been a tuff 10 weeks and I am still recovering. Don't be fooled too think you will recover in 6 week's you won't. Also hysterectomy will not cure your endometriosis. It will help with the pain in most cases. Hrt can increase the risk of it coming back. But not everyone is the same. I am glad I left hysterectomy until now. There are other treatments available that you could try, but if you have explored all avenues and you are in pain then its a strong option. I stuffed the pain for years, it made my life hell but I would not change my choice too leave it until now. Its a Major operation... ITs A BIG DISCISSION!!! only you can make.
Thank you for sharing. I hope you continue to stay pain free.
At the moment the pain is the issue and my gyane has no more options or alternatives. I am currently trying his last option before a hysterectomy (to give me time to think and make a decision) and I have explored pain management options to currently no considerable avail.
I know its a big decision at any age never mind at 28 with no children. Which is why I am definitely not taking the decision lightly and will be researching further and was looking for others experiences.
You raise a good point about recovery time that I hadnt considered previously and is also something to think about. I have had 7 months off this year due to a lap and then the development of intense chronic pain which had rendered me pretty much bed bound and have only just started to go back to work a few hours a week. Can I ask at this moment where in the recovery would you say you are? Xxx
10 weeks post op.The last week has been better. I can now sleep all night thanks too the hrt as before menapores was a nightmare. But the more active I get my tummy blow's up and I am very uncomfortable. I am told this is my inside's still healing and can take up too 3 months too heal sometimes longer. I been told I need too rest but that's not easy. I can walk around and do most things but I pay the price. I was a very active lady even though the pain I was in before this. I thought becouse I was super fit I would heal faster. Thats not the case. Some women have blowing for months even a year after. I just hope that's not the case. Please ask any questions. Keep me posted. Good luck girl! I hope things work out for you. I am lucky I have two grown children. I read some stoys and I feel lucky. God bless!
Ahhh I understand although I wouldn't have thought it could take that long. But then I have that now anyway. Thanks for the explanation and sharing. It means a lot.
Thanks I am pretty sure that I am going to have it done but just need to research a few more points my gynae said. Thanks again. Xxx
