l just started HRT

Hi, I've just started 25mg of evorel after months of displaying perimenopause symptoms. They started in September when I got my Mirena (which has been the only thing to help endometriosis) was replaced after a year of failed attempted due to a tilted cervix and perforation. I'm 44 now and have had 2 coils so this is my 3rd. Peri symptoms started as soon as coil went in - low mood, high anxiety, insomnia, greasy hair, insane hunger etc etc.

I've been on the 25mg hrt patch for nearly 2 weeks now and I can feel some improvement in mood and I've slept much better. I do have a headache and I'm very tired and emotional still but I appreciate its early days.

Does anyone have a similar experience? Does anyone take any supplements alongside the hrt eg magnesium. Friends suggest this but they don't have endometriosis so I wanted to ask here. Thank you.

Hi, I don’t have exact same situation as you. I’m peri and managing it with bio identical progesterone only. I found the estrogen hrt made my endo worse. Supplement wise I use bio care liquid zinc complex, vit d3 and a b complex all of these are liquid ones, I find the tablets too irritating on my gut. I also take pure encapsulations Magnesium glycinate (tablet) which seems to be the only one my body will tolerate. I find magnesium so helpful but it has to be one that my gut will tolerate. Epsom Salt baths can also be a great way to get magnesium. If you have any sleep issues magnesium will be really helpful

Thank you so much, this helps. I'm hoping the endo isn't aggregated but it's early days. This really helps thank you 🥰

I'm in early days too and had a hysterectomy and one ovary removed. Peri symptoms have been horrible. I'm on 25mg estrogen patch too and did notice pain has increased a bit and still getting low mood, panic etc. But also taking micronised progesterone which has helped with the sleep. I'm also trying magnesium spray for sleep bit not sure if it's this or the progesterone which has lead me to be very fatigued. I'm taking calcium, omega 3, vit d too and also started some mushroom gummies for brain fog and mood management. No clue if they will help but thought I'd try. It is hard and you need to give it 2 months at least to see. I'm on 5 weeks with not much change but think it's a bit of trial and error. Hope you find something that works for you. X

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it. I've just ordered some magnesium and I think I'll get some vitamin D too. I have omega 3,6.9 but after reading I think I only need omega 3 so I'll change that when I run out. It's a minefield isn't it. I've noticed a little more pain too but I can't work out if it's the same as before or if I'm over analysing it all.

I really hope things improve for you x

It really is a minefield and yeah I totally agree with not being sure about the pain. It is a lot to adapt to and process too so it's hard not to over think it, but yeah that isn't always helpful either. I am going to ask to be referred to a menopause and endo expert though suspect there's very long waiting times. Is that something you could do?

After years of struggle with trying to adjust and manage with Endo, having to figure out perimenopause and Endo is hard isn't it?

Another thing I did find is eating tonnes of green leafy veg, cutting out sugar and alcohol and for me gluten helped a little too. Oh and I also found out that you can book in at Holland and Barrett for a consultation on best supplements, apparently they're pretty good.

Hope you find things that work for you.

Thank you so much for replying. I'm also considering going private and finding an expert. I'll also look into a consultation at Holland an Barrett as I'm googled out :) Thank you. Sending love

My pleasure, I really appreciate you posting as it's so helpful to know you're not going it alone. It's such a rough ride at times and hard to adjust to new sets of symptoms on top of the Endo and figuring out helping both without aggregavating the other. Another useful thing- I booked an appt with a specialist nurse through endometriosis UK website and she was helpful. I actually felt a bit emotional after talking for 30 minutes about it all to her which is the longest I've talked to a professional about symptoms and not surgery in the 28 years I've had it... Crazy eh?

Good luck and keep in touch with how you get on.

See how you get on with the supplements but if nothing changes you may want to look at the difference between progestin and progesterone. You can clearly tolerate progestin but it might not give you what you need as you head into Peri menopause and your own progesterone becomes much lower. Take care x
