Hi everyone, so I had my lap on Thursday and I’ve been doing okay pain wise had a lot or morphine and vision in the hospital up until Fri aft then not needed any. However today I’ve had the most awful period type pains they were to the point I couldn’t cope it was like nothing I’ve ever had and I just had the urge to sit on the loo. I’m not sure if this is being binged up and not going toilet properly for a number 2 or if it’s my period or something’s wrong please help if anyone has had this thank you xx

Hi,
It could definitely be the pain relief that's caused constipation if you've not opened your bowels in a while. I was recommended a laxative when I was taking morphine & cocodamol. I found Dulcolax tablets to help gently. I've tried buscopan as an antispasmodic however I think it can cause things to slow down so you might want to discuss with your GP or something. Also try drinking lots of water and eating fibre x
I had this post op due to constipation. Once the gas pains disappeared they were quickly replaced by the cramping due to constipation. I used stool softeners, increased fibre and drank more. Moving around more will also help. X
Hey, sending you well wishes for a speedy recovery! ☺️
I agree with everyone, it’s likely to be the pain relief causing constipation. They usually prescribe a laxative with it to help, if not maybe your GP can prescribe one. I think the first one after an op is the worst it’s really painful but after that it settles and hopefully won’t be as bad! I also got period pains when my bladder was full too if it helps x
