I have my first appointment at James cook in March after an urgent referral was sent from by gynaecologist after I’d had my mri scan, and he said I have an endometrioma on my right ovary and also have a uterine fibroid which is sitting pressing against the endometrioma, I’m feeling pretty anxious about what to expect at my appointment at James cook, mainly ad I’ve been messed about for the last 18 months by my old consultant so any advice on what to expect would be greatly appreciated 🥰
I’m currently on zoladex and just had my 3rd injection, I had eased some pain but that stabbing pain in my right side just isn’t going away it’s every day and into my back! It’s so exhausting.

hi, I was looked after for a number of years by a consultant at James Cook and have to say they are really good. The team know their stuff and it was the first time in many years that I really felt listened to. I know waiting lists are very long are they are time stretched but the care I received was amazing. So please feel reassured! Best advice I can give is to make notes of everything that you wish to cover and take them with you to your appointment. If you can take someone for support (and to makes notes for you) it might help you get the most of the time. If that’s not possible just ask the consultant to bear with you whilst you make notes of what they are telling you and run through your list of questions. Oh and if you are driving to your appointment, give yourself plenty of time as the car park can take a while to get into!! Best of luck
They are a great team but VERY busy. The consultant I see is lovely and they are very supportive. They use the robotic method too and they're trained to deal with endometriosis unlike the QE who are amazing but it's beyond them. They use prostrap rather than zoladex so decide if you want to change or not. They also use tibilone add back. If you've only had 3 zoladex injections they'll want to see if it shrinks your endometrioma (it has made mine much much smaller). The parking is terrible so please leave plenty of time and lots of women have someone with them. There's a lovely Marks and Spencer shop in the main part too. Everyone is professional and friendly - you are in great hands x
Thank you, I’m on tibilone aswell, my partner is coming with me and he will be driving, so I’ll get him to take notes for me, I really don’t feel like the endomerioma is shrinking as the pain where that is and the fibroid hasn’t gone away at all 😩
We are travelling the night before and staying over as it’s quite a while away from where we live, I was just worried I would get there and it would be a rushed appointment, as I’m unsure at what will be done at the first appointment 🙈 xx
Unfortunately these appointments do sometimes feel rushed. At my first appointment I didnt see the consultant as she was in surgery and she came later. I have to admit that it wasn't ideal. Women's health is in crisis at the moment and everything feels BUSY and rushed but try to stay calm and ask your questions. They are there to help and provide you with options. I didn't think my endometrioma had shrunk either but the MRI scan showed a different picture. It's good not to feel rushed so staying over sounds good. Endometriosis and fibroids are very difficult to treat and they cannot predict how we respond to drugs so keep an open mind and stay positive. Good luck x
