I had my first laparoscopy in November where I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis and told I had endometriosis and my ovary was also stuck to my bowel. After my surgery the surgeon said I would probably need a stoma and a hysterectomy and then left the room! Since then my gynaecology follow up appointment in March has been cancelled and when I called up in a panic the secretary then got the endometriosis specialist to look at my notes who agreed that I should be on the urgent list and that I should have an endometriosis MRI to see what they are dealing with. My question is, does anyone know roughly how long an ‘urgent list’ is at the moment, particularly at the Norfolk and Norwich?! (Only been waiting just over 3 weeks so far but wanted to manage my expectations!)
Urgent wait list: I had my first... - Endometriosis UK
Urgent wait list

I'm very similar to you and I was told 9 to 12 months. I'm on zoladex in the meantime x
I’m waiting for an appointment (I’ve been referred back by my gp) but I think it’s about 27 week ish wait for an appointment and I’be been referred back to the n&n
Hi, sounds very similar to what i had 3 years ago and i had to wait because it was during the pandemic. I had surgery for a full hysterectomy and bowel surgery. I had to have a temporary stoma as my endo cyst had stuck to my bowel. I can't help with what's going on with wait lists these days but can hopefully offer support if you have any questions. It's so frustrating not getting clear answers I can imagine. Big hugs x
Thank you ☺️
Could I ask how long you had the temporary stoma for? X
had it for 3 months. Needs to be long enough for your bowel to heal properly x
Thank you, I’m sure three months at the time feels like a lifetime, but in the grand scheme of things that we’ve all been through it’s not that long is it so that’s put my mind at rest a bit so thank you 🙏
Appreciate your response 🥰
It was easier for me in a way as it was during lockdown so wasn't going anywhere and worked at home. I just kept telling myself that it's temporary Good luck with everything - you will be absolutely fine. If you do end up needing a stoma, the stoma nurses are so lovely and take really good care of you. please get in touch if you need any support x
Hi, I am in this situation trying to decide on the same surgeries you have had. I want to manage my expectations about recovery… was it brutal afterwards? Did you have any complications? E.g infection? I have been told I may need a stoma too given I have severe endometriosis. TIA.
Hi, wouldn't say brutal but it's no walk in the park either It is manageable and they don't always need to do a Stoma. I think they like to just warn you so that you're prepared. Unfortunately I did have a few complications after the surgery but think i was just unlucky. Many women in the same ward, recovered much quicker.
But it is major surgery and will take a good few weeks to recover and may be months before you feel back to normal again.
After all the pain of the endo for years, i do remember feeling like a totally new woman after my stoma reversal! I didn't have any option about the surgery as my endo was so bad but it is important that you think over all the options carefully and the long term affects. A few years on, I'm pain free but dealing with all the fun stuff related to early menopause instead! lol.
