My gp is sending me for an urgent referral to gynaecology based on my latest ca125 test. My first test was 45 and was a few days before my period, so my gp advised I took another with at least 10 days before my period - the test has come back as 64.
I've already been "sort of??" diagnosed with endometriosis as I had an ultrasound and they were able to see endometrioma and cysts on both ovaries without doing a transvaginal ultrasound.
I know I shouldn't be worried but I still am a little - I suppose either way it allows me to get that bit closer to hopefully getting surgery? I'm not sure what else they would test - just an MRI or are there certain tests they do to definitely rule out cancer? Since they already know about the endometrioma on the ovaries I'm not sure what that next step would be?

Worrying is only natural. At your gynae appointment they may do some blood tests, a physical exam, take samples from around the uterus to rule everything else out. They may also refer you for an MRI. My appointment at the exclusion clinic was a bit rushed as they only allow 30 minutes per session.
I had to wait a few months for my MRI results as they found endo & adeno but nothing cancerous. The senior nurse who did my physical exam etc hinted at endo anyway.
Good luck with your appointment. xx
Hello! I understand your worries, I was transferred under the 2week wait because of raised ca125 levels at xmas. I joined the overcome group and when I say that those wonderful women totally reassured me, their ca125 results were in the 100/1000 !
I can say endometriosis, fibroids and endometrioma all raise the level of your ca125 so its really not a good test to do.
I did get a gyn appointment fairly quickly after that and it wasn't rushed, I was examined, sent to hystoscopy, and MRI with contrast and within 2 months referred to MDT for endo with no suspicion of anything more sinister.
I hope this helps and although it's natural, they have you in the system now so what ever happens you'll have information and a care plan.
Hi, I had a blood test done in Dec due to irregular periods and the fact I already had an ovarian cyst removed the year before (although they didn't spot anything else then or give a dianosis). My ca125 levels were 93 and I was understandable worried. I also got send for a urgent referral, more scans and tests, the gynaecologist said my levels were nothing to be too concerned about and that it can be raised at certain times of the month and if you have endometriosis or other conditions. They also spotted another large cyst on my ovary. I was put on the waiting list for surgery (seeing as I've already had one cyst removed, the size of this one and the fact I got admitted to a&e with pain), I had surgery two weeks ago and the consultant said I have stage 4 endo and he can't believe I didn't have many other symptoms. Apparently they were going to do a biopsy of my cyst, haven't heard anything so I'm hoping no news is good news!Think what happens next will be down to you, your symptoms, size of your cysts, etc. Hopefully you won't have too much of a wait before you get seen.
My ca125 was 95. And no doctor was concerned. I already knew I had a 4cm cyst. No further tests were done other than hysteroscopy because of a thick lining. I was then just scheduled for a lap .
ca125 is ususally raised by endo but don't worry if it were cancer it would be much much higher so it is extremely unlikely to be cancer (your GP should have told you this). The logical next step would be forthe gynae to refer you for an MRI or a TV ultrasound this will show him/ her exactly where the endo is and how far spread it is then I guess they will decide on how to treat you from the results they find. Well done for getting this far it is sometimes hard to get GPs to consider symptoms might be endo, that is half the battle.
It will probably take a long time to get your MRI/TV ultrasound done, and then a long wait fr results, you could always ask about getting this step done privately as it would save you a lot of time.Good luck hope all goes well. xx
hi, try not to worry. I had a high test result too when a large cyst was found on my ovary and it freaked me out! I had it removed and tested and was confirm to have endometriosis. Before surgery they were able to do a mri and another blood test to rule out cancer. Hope all goes well for you xx
