Urgent surgery required

Due to severe allergic reaction when I was put to sleep for my hysterectomy and excision surgery I woke up in icu. I have had many ops before with no complications. It’s taken 4 months to find out what I’m allergic too and to see my consultant again because she was on annual leave then surgery herself. I sore her 2nd of July and she is happy to put me back on the surgical waiting list and has put a request that it be considered urgent. Does any body know how long the wait is for ‘ urgent ‘ surgery requests?

So sorry to hear you had such an awful time last time. At least they have been able to find out what it is that caused the reaction.

I was listed as Urgent for my hysterectomy in February this year and waited 10 weeks. It depends entirely on your hospital though. My surgeon did however speak to the appointments office and find out how long it would roughly be so maybe yours could do the same?

Good luck. Xxx

When I did see my consultant she did say that if Iv not heard anything within 2 months I am to ring her secretary and ask to notify the consultant that I’m still waiting x

It varies from place to place, but where I am the target for urgent gynaecology surgery is 12 weeks. If not urgent, 26 weeks.

You might also be able to speak to the secretary who books these things to get a better idea? xx

I spoke to the waiting list team today she said my surgeon put a note saying she wanted me doing sooner rather then later so if there’s any cancellations or extra theatre lists added I’ll be first in line. It’s been 10 months since I was first put on the list. She also thinks that my bowel is now fused to my uterus and may have to have bowel resection x

Interested in what you were allergic to? I have had laparascopy postponed due to drug allergy issues..... Waiting to go back on list once a safe painkiller found.

I had to

Go back into theatre to have skin prick test under monitoring by anaesthetic team , it was a muscle relaxant and I reacted to some sterile solutions x
