Hi all - how do folk manage the constipation? I swing between Diarrhoea during flare ups to constipation the rest of the time. I take codeine/cocodamol so the constipation gets worse 😭 how do you manage this? I drink lots of water and eat plenty fibre and nothing helps

Don’t think I’ve tried that one - I’ve been using stool softeners (dulcolax) and glycerine suppositories (which are awful and don’t help long term) 😂 I also need to be careful as I tend to get a lot of bowel bleeding during flare ups every month 😭

It’s so hard to get the balance right isn’t it. I’m the same with diet, increased fibre etc - nothing makes a difference for me, only laxatives. The best laxative I’ve found for me is Laxido. It’s much gentler on the stomach than others that I’ve tried. I’ve not tried the suppositories but Dulcolax, Lactulose etc used to give me diarrhoea whereas Laxido just softens everything for me and gets things moving. It’s also easy to pause if needed.

I hope that helps x

I take 1 or 2 senna tablets on a night to help keep my bowel stimulating. If you have a tens machine this can also help by putting 2 on the back each side of spine and 2 on stomach below belly button, also magnesium supplement can help me too

fibrogel sashes really help me and then coffee! And peppermint oil and ibs medication buscopan for cramps. I tried laxido on gp recommendation and it gave me so much more pain! Would never try again!

I second the fibrogel and the peppermint , but I have peppermint tea! Buscopan is a life saver at times for me too ! 🙌🙌

I can’t take any IBS medication as it all makes me worse 🙈 tried buscopan, peppermint capsules, everything the GP has given me. I will drink a peppermint tea as I like it but I don’t think it helps me other than to calm me down a bit

I do have an oovi and that will help the pain but doesn’t get things moving
