natural ways; eat lots of fruit / fibre, senna tablets, herbal teas as the water helps, honey and lemon tea stimulates the colon, caffeine can help but need lots of water with that.

In summary always drink lots of water.

Ducolax works pretty well at helping, take one or two in the evening and the next day you should be going to the loo x

I was given movicol to take for 2 weeks after my hyst - did they not give you anything? Avoid senna and anything that stimulates the bowel because these will just cause more pain. Movicol softens and is more effective than lactulose. You can buy it over the counter from the chemist.

Have you tried Fybogel? 3 of those a day and a Dominos Pizza on the 3rd day worked for me on codeine x

I pop in a suppository and it works every time. I have to use them daily as my bowel don’t work x

If you've been taking codeine/co-codamol for pain postop, you can try coffee. A clever friend tells me that it directly reverses the constipation you get from these medications. Obviously this isn't great long term as a lot of ladies find coffee flares up their endo, but maybe worth a try?

I recommend Lactalose liquid (SP?)You got to drink as much as you can as it draws water form your stomach to your bowels and takes 2ish days to start working but i found it better than anything else i ever took and now it on for a long time since the lap showed endo aswell as a very full bowel. xx

Oh Charley-rae I really do sympathise, I would definitely agree with joreilly, although from experience if u want immediate relief .... well almost-just follow instructions . Have you checked with Gp because I’ve never had a hysterectomy so wouldn’t want to advise for that specific situation as I’ve only used them for severe constipation alone or after surgery for heammoroides.goodluck x

Aloe vera juice is an excellent natural stool softener. If I miss a day I notice it!

Also, if I miss my cal-mag-zinc tabs, 3 at night, chances are I won't have a bm the never morning. Before I started that regime I was about 4 bms a wk. Just missing one day really ups my pelvic and back pain. Chinese herbs have also been helpful with constipation, but mainly with resolving an old ovarian cyst and mentally too.

I tried everything after surgery, lactulose, laxative, suppositories etc and nothing really seemed to work. Good old prune juice has worked more recently, the stronger the better. I keep a couple of cartons on hand when I use pain relief and they usually work within 2-3 hours if I need relief and drink the whole carton.

Lots and lots of water and a relatively high dose of movicol/laxido. They're kind to the bowel but do tackle any blockages x
