hormonal coil question

Hello !

I had my surgery + diagnosis just over two weeks ago now. I had the hormonal coil put in during my surgery as a ‘helpful measure of controlling the endo’ as obvs no cure yet.

I was due on my period today, but wasn’t actually expecting it to start ? Is this normal for the hormonal coil ? I’ve been on the pill for years so haven’t really had periods and was told this would stop my periods ? I’m in so much pain now as still recovering from the surgery and now a period !

Advice please, thank you xx

Hi there! I've recently had the coil removed but had it for 5 years! I always had a regular period with the coil but with different degrees of pain etc . It is also possible you may spot inbetween periods. I was told it may stop my periods it didn't for me but my mum also had a coil and they pretty much stopped for her. I would say look out for your mental health while you have a coil I believe it made my depression worst but we are all different and wish you all the best! x

Hi lovely, the coil takes 3-6 months to settle so you may have periods for a few months before they stop (some people's done actually stop fully) and as you have only had it in for two weeks I would expect you to have your period when it is due. I had the mirena coil fitted during my surgery in June and I am still having painful periods (irregular though). However, I have ended up in hospital recently due to the pain and been told my body is rejecting the coil so waiting to have it out under general anaesthetic.

Hope that makes sense, basically don't panic it is normal to have your period in the first 6 months of having the coil.

xx

That's okay lovely, if you are ever concerned about the pain though please go to your GP and raise it with them.

Thank you, me too (I'm taking tramadol/morphine every few hours just to survive the day its horrible) :(
