Endometriosis and the Kyleena IUD

Hi all,

Just after some experiences please.

I went to my GP to ask for a hysterectomy due to my increased symptoms of endo that I've had since I was 11 (I'm now 36). I have been absolutely blessed with having a child of my own and have now got to the stage in my life where child 2 isn't on the cards anymore. My endo symptoms have got to the point where I'm lucky if i get 4 days a month relatively pain free and my periods have become so heavy that its uncontrollable.

My GP told me that the gyno specialists are tending to bat referrals away if people haven't tried a Mirena coil for at least 6 months so I agreed to give it a go. Unfortunately after two failed insertions (apparently my cervix has quite a significant bend in it!) they could only give me the Kyleena, which I was told was mainly just a contraceptive rather than having any of the endo relief that the Mirena offers.

Since having the Kyleena I am having intense pains that I can only liken to the contractions I had when I was on the synthetic drip to get me into labour. I am now wondering if perhaps the Kyleena is not for me, I am also bleeding every day. I am at a loss as to what is actually worse, my "natural" endo or this.

I've had my Kyleena for 4 weeks now so I am aware that it is probably too soon to tell but if I can get any stories from people that have had this so I know if I'm on the right track and it will settle soon, or if perhaps I need to push for further investigations.

So sorry for my long post - I appreciate all responses thank you x

Hi, I had the Mirena fitted in 2018 and had horrendous cramps which went on for a couple of months. This then settled. It was the best thing I did as it really helped with endo pain at the time. I had it changed last year. I've not had a period since 2018! Don't get me wrong the pain didn't go completely but it was more manageable. I'm now awaiting hysterectomy and oophorectomy as the endo has grown back since my first surgery.I think I'd persevere another few weeks if you can but then I don't have any experience of the kyleena.

Wishing you all the best
