What’s everyone’s experience with the mirena coil?

I have had mine for 4 months now and had it inserted whilst I was under for my lap. I have a new symptom of stinging pains and my cramps are unbearable?! Is it worth me sticking it out? My surgeon always says it is best to stick it as it hurts having a new one put in if you are awake but I don’t think I can wait for 6 months - 1 year for it to potentially not even get better. So far it’s only got worse??

Hey, I had the mirena coil in for a year? Like yourself I was told to wait it out and give it time to settle. Although it did stop me bleeding, it made my pain a lot worse. Constant stabbing and cramping, I also put on weight. My gp finally agreed to remove it for me and I felt so much better afterwards. I know the mirena can really help a lot of woman with Endo but unfortunately it didn’t help me. Atleast I could say I really did try it but on hindsight I don’t think I should of suffered for a whole year

They are absolute devices of torture. I had mine in for 9 months and it was 9 months from hell. Excruciating pain & horrendous bleeding. I wish they’d stop pushing these things they are not fit for purpose. Good luck

Having my coil inserted was the worse experience of my life. I nearly got admitted due to blood loss. It then 100% made my bleeding and cramping worse. I did stick it out for around 9 months and it did eventually settle. I will have had it 3 years in May. It working for me now, I still bleed and continuous spotting but pain now bearable.

so it was awful having it in, and I had a fifty day period as a result but I think it’s stopped or mostly stopped my periods and I haven’t had any pain from it … it’s a win for me

hi. Like you, I had the mirena coil fitted when under for a laparoscopy in November 2020. It took 9 months for my bleeding to fully stop. Wouldn’t say my pains were any worse having it, but no better neither. Seems to suit some women and not others. Good luck x

I had Mirena coil for almost 4 years and it was replaced after 3.5years. I put on 9kg of weight during that time. It caused arthritis in my knees and made me feel terrible emotionally. What’s worse is when you have it removed after a long time, you can experience the mirena crash! If it doesn’t agree with you, get it removed. Look at other options.
