Abdominal hysterectomy pain....advice needed

Hi there,

I am 5 weeks post abdominal hysterectomy. I had uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes and ovaries out and it was quite a lengthy op.

I have been up and down pain wise but not more than expected, however I thought by 5 weeks it would have eased??

It is like a burning pain more on the right side of abdomen/pelvis now. No temp, no bleeding so all good but just looking for anyone else and how they recovered?

Been a long road so just looking for a little light and everyone I speak to has had a laparoscopy hysterectomy so recovered super quick!

Thanks x

Hi, Eighteen months ago I had the same procedure as you.Firstly let me reassure you that these odd pains should gradually disappear.

I remember having strange burning sensations on my left side near the scar and at the top of the vagina, where my cervix was removed, these lasted on and off for about 2 months.

I tried not to overdo things as in lifting too much and I made sure I rested.

What helped me the most was doing short walks everyday where i gradually built up the distance.

My advice is be really strict with yourself about what you should and can do physically.

It feels like a long road but every few days there's likely to be an improvement.

Try not to compare it with someone having it done laparoscopy or vaginally I know that's not easy, especially when you read about people going jogging at 8 weeks post op!!

It's honestly worked out so well for me. I don't regret it at all. I wear a low dose hrt patch and I've never felt better.

Best of luck with your recovery x

Thanks so much for replying! Makes me feel.so much better knowing some people recover slower or differently to other's.

Glad it worked out for you, will see how I go without HRT but looking forward to these pains going once and for all x
