Hi. I had an abdominal hysterectomy in January this year due to pid, I had fentanol just before I was put under then given morphine after while I’m recovery room I have a high tolerance to pain killers so was put on a mophine drip for two days after. The pain was horrible they try and get you up the day after surgery to have a shower but I just couldn’t get up it was painful once your up and about it does ease but it’s the first time trying to get out of bed, all I can say is take your time don’t rush into it everyone’s different so you might find it easier than I did. It’s been 6 months now and I’m still having problems got a scan on Wednesday to see why I’m still in pain. hopefully it goes well for you and don’t worry your in safe hands.

Hello, thank you for being so honest. I remember trying to leave hospital after 2days after an emergency c section and thought honestly what have they done to me. They did tell me it's similar pain but worse. How long did you op take. I wouldn't be that frightened if it was keyhole I shouldn't have watched the video really on what happens. I'm first on morning list so got to be there for 7am and it's in private hosp so little bit nicer. Any advice for my hosp bag apart from big knickers that go over scar xxxx

Hi. I was in for about 3 hours had my ovary had fused to my bowel, my children are older my youngest is 6 so my partner and kids helped me out loads I didn’t do much apart from go to toilet, just get your hubby to do every thing. I was in hospital for 4 days and with the hospital bag I had nighties and didn’t wear any pants as it was so uncomfortable with the drain in and catheter in your scar with be covered anyway when I left I just wore some leggings and at home I wore big pants if needed but I felt more comfortable in none

Hi N_hen,

I was given an epidural before the operation, i had a total hysterectomy, removal of both ovaries and bowel resection. After the operation i was given morphine via a IV button which i had control of for 24 hours. After this was was given dihydrocodeine and ibroprofen, then after 2 days i was only taking paracetamol/ibroprofen when required. (i was in alot of pain before surgery taking morphine and pethidine at home so after surgery was a relief only having surgery pain.)

My surgery took 6 hours, I was in high dependency due to the epidural for 12 hours after surgery. They try to get you out of bed and active soon after but take your own time and do what you are comfortable with. I found it helpful to have a pillow over my stomach when i was sitting up in bed just as a wee barrier.

It takes a good while to recover, i was back working from home after 8 weeks due to my circumstances but I would say it was still about the 6 month mark before i was feeling more like myself.

Just remember to take it easy and look after yourself,

Louise

i think it was just my circumstance, i was high risk for an ileostomy bag due to the bowel damage and they said i was to have the epidural due to my tolerance to painkillers because of the morphine/pethidine i was taking beforehand.

I notice alot of people saying they had a csection type scar not sure why mines is different but i was cut from about 2 inches above my belly button down to my pubic bone xx

I was 31 when i had the op, I'm 35 now and it was worth it. I know its different for everyone but it helped my pain and i feel like i am a normal 35 year old now. I think you have to weight up what is in your best interest. I will say that I did have some emotional issue after the surgery and coming to terms with it so go easy on yourself and get counselling after if you feel you are struggling with anything.

Hope it all goes well and come back give us an update on how you are!

x
