Hi, I was diagnosed with endometriosis in my 20's and I am now 54. I have had several laparoscopies, a laparotomy, had one tube removed. I also have PCOS. I have been on various drugs and for what seemed ages, progesterone tablets. My GP said that I had been on them for ages and that I should come off them. so I have stopped taking them and I have now started a period! I thought I was going through the menopause, as I was getting sweats, mood swings etc. Now I just feel dreadful - back pain, abdo pain, groin/pelvic paid. I am going back to my GP next week....would you suggest a hysterectomy? I just don't know what to do.

Any advise would be gratefully received, thanks. 🙄

Hi, could this be what is known as a “withdrawal bleed”? Not a true period, but an effect of stopping the progesterone. Theoretically would just be the one bleed, your body’s immediate reaction to the sudden change in hormones. Sometimes reported as equal to or worse than a normal period, in terms of pain, bleeding or both 😣

So perhaps you will find that you are actually in menopause and you won’t bleed again. But have a good chat with your GP about what might happen next and what options there are to counteract any further unpleasant symptoms. x

Why would he take you off them? Progesterone (natural progesterone not progestin) doesn't cause us issues (unlike estrogen) so why not just stay on them. I agree with Purplebadger too as it could be a withdrawal bleed. God us women still battling this in our 50s - you'd think we'd get a break xxx

Thank you for your replies ladies, I am sick to the back teeth of all of this. Seeing my GP next Monday in the hope of getting some answers. I have been bleeding now on and off for nearly 2 weeks
