After such a long wait since my MRI scan confirmed endometriosis and adenomyosis (over which time things have got progressively worse and landed me in hospital), I FINALLY have my pre-op assessment (over the phone) on Friday this week!! I don't have a date for surgery yet but I believe it has to be within 6 weeks of the pre-op??
My question is... what questions should I be asking during my pre-op and what are they likely to ask me when it is over the phone? Will they need me to weigh myself because I have not done that in years and when the doctors do it I look away as I don't want to know (I will spiral into a bad headspace)... I was weighed at the hospital less than a month ago so can they go off that on my records?
Sorry there is definitely more than one question in theređ But any advice is much appreciatedâ¤ď¸

Like you I didnât know what to expect at my pre-op but mine was very quick to be honest. Mine was in person so will likely be different. I saw a nurse who asked my height, weight and checked over a medical questionnaire that I had filled out with current medication, past medical history etc. With your weight, maybe just say youâre not sure of your current weight but that they weighed you recently at the hospital - hopefully then they can use that. They also took bloods, but I presume you wonât be needing them if yours is over the phone. I was also given some leaflets about my procedures and recovery, as well as a chance to ask questions - I was due on my period so I think I just asked about whether that was okay (I was also having a hysteroscopy) and about my concerns regarding constipation post-op.
As the appointment wasnât with my consultant, I felt some questions couldnât be answered if I asked at pre-op, so I saved some of my questions until I saw my consultant before surgery.
Hi,Ideally the surgery should be within a certain time frame following your preoperative assessment as things can expire. For example I had my preop face2face in clinic, they took bloods, did an MRSA swab, took weight, BP then went through some questions and gave me educational leaflets. The bloods and swab results had an expiration essentially (think it was something like 6/8 weeks) so when the window lapsed I had to have these re-done as unfortunately I was waiting another 4 months before I had my op. But hopefully you won't have to wait that long! x
