Heavy bleeding Mirena

Hello I have the mirena IUD coil for about 3 years now. My bleeding used to be lighter but still there and constant. But over the last couple of money with academic stress and financial pressure. I've been bleeding so heavily with blood clots the size of my palm. I bleed like 3 weeks a month and I spend a fortune on period products.

I bleed even when I'm meant be ovulating just constant heavy bleeding which makes me exhausted - I'm on iron supplements but I hate them as they give me severe constipated.

My chronic pelvic pain has definitely gotten so much better since starting the mirena where I have such a better overall quality of life and can pace myself opposed to being stuck in bed all day when a period or ovulation.

Has anyone dealt lt with this and if so did it get resolved and what caused it ?

Thank you :)

You need to get it checked out. Ask for an ultra sound first off. The coil may have stopped doing its job or your estrogen levels could have altered. You may have fibroids which is common. See a doctor and get some iron too as you'll be anaemic. Look after yourself as many of us on here are bleed heavily and know how exhausting it is x

Sorry you're experiencing this. I had the mirena to help with heavy bleeding, it was great for a few years (except for weight gain!) but then I started bleeding daily and it got worse and worse. Not to the heaviness extent that to describe but heavy.I have since been diagnosed with adenomyosis and it would be good to ensure this is considered. Very often causes heavy bkeeding. Definitely get checked out and push for scans/further investigation, never let anyone suggest this is just normal heavy bleeding, it is not. As other responder suggested it could also be fibroids, polyps or other things.

One thing I will mention is that when I had the coil taken out I had a massive bleed a few days after that took me to a&e. Just mention not to scare you but to be prepared as the coil could be masking the underlying issue, which for me turned out to be adenomyosis.

Please don't accept this bleeding as normal x

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that Mirena doesn't always last as long in peeps with endo.

The mirena worked for me for about 2.5 years then I started walking up with terrible headaches. The monthly bleeds were lighter but never actually stopped with Mirena. Waking headaches stopped as soon as Mirena taken out.

I went back on pill. Had to stop using combined as was getting bad migraines. Now on zeletta (POP), pain much reduced and no bleeding at all after 3 months or so. Been on it now for over a year.

Good luck x
