Periods after surgery

Hi ladies,

I had surgery in September to remove chocolate cysts and endo tissue but for various reasons they didn’t remove all the endo.

Before my surgery, my periods were regular – every for weeks. But afterwards the surgeon wanted to stop them to help with the endo and try to prevent future cysts.

I was put on 5mg Provera which made me bleed constantly. So, they upped it to 10mg to see if that did the trick. I was only on it for 14 days and took myself off it because it made me feel so low. That was the end of January.

I wasn’t keen on taking hormones, so thought I would just let my body get back to its usual rhythm and manage any pain, which I really only get when I’ve my period.

The last three months my periods have been regular (yay!) but every two weeks – which is a nightmare, not as much as bleeding all the time, but not what I want.

The consultant did say if the Provera didn’t stop the periods the pill would be the next option. Although I’m not keen on it, I am now considering it because I’m fed up with having a period every two weeks. I’m 41 and pill that has been recommended is Levest or Rigevidon.

I don’t know whether to give my body more time or take the pill.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar or got any advice?

Thank you.

Hi there! I just had a 10 cm choco cyst removed and an oophorectomy on the right ovary 3weeks ago, and they removed the fallopian tube along with it due to the severity of the endometriosis(had no idea I even had it). They removed two other smaller ones at 5 and 3 cm from the left side but they weren’t nearly as big. How something that big could grow on something the size of a flippin almond is beyond me.

I couldn’t tell you how long I’ve had them due to having a pretty high pain tolerance, just pushing it off believing I just had cruddy irregular periods. I’m about to start hormones and I’m ready because I can NOT handle these mood swings or hot flashes. I’m also 26 and this was my first major surgery. How is your body feeling after the gas, and does it ever get easier to cough?! Ouchhh!

Before this, I’ve only ever done the pill for a few years to regulate the period, and the depo shot for a full year (bled every single day of that year 🙃). I’m quite interested to see what they’ll put me on, but nervous as well. How on earth are they to know how much that one ovary produced, even if it was at that point, in this body?! It’s scary to think about the trial and error ahead. My apologies for this being so long, I’m grateful to know I’m not the only one out there struggling, and I’ll definitely check back on your story for any other replies from others!

I was on rigevidon for 4 years - this is just my experience and it might be different for you. It was okay for a year or so and then I started to get reduced libido, lowered mood (I’ve had this on most I have tried). My endo pain in the last few month leading up to when I stopped was bad but it had helped up until then. I also suffered with severe headaches and sometimes migraines and if you suffer with these do not take rigevidon or any that combine oestrogen with progesterone as they increase your chance of a stroke - only small but that is why I stopped and can now only have progesterone only if I go back on hormone contraception.

Hopefully others will reply with their stories and have a better experience but the last 2 years I was on the pill it were awful and my libido and mood improved massively once I was off it and my headaches as well
