Hi,

I currently just starting taking prostap injection and taking hrt tablets and as soon after ive got bleeding and what feels like period pain. Is this normal? The consultant said the injections will stop all bleeding and I shouldn’t have periods im wondering is theres a time delay before this happens? Has anyone had the prostap injection and had similar issues?

Thank you.

It's completely normal. The drug stimulates the ovaries first quite a bit then after around a month (or two) the bleeding should get less and less. I wish consultants would explain this better. The first month can be quite tough. Stick with it - it gets better x

You're not. It's the drug doing its job. I bled a lot to start with. I was fed up and anaemic. Now at the end of month 3 I've been to the gym, I'm not bleeding and I feel great. I have no pain anymore. Keep going as it takes time. You will feel better x

hi- I’m on my 3rd Prostap injection. From my first injection (around 10th January), I bled continuously and very heavy (clots, flooding). After a really heavy day’s bleeding on the 26th February, my gynaecologist offered me another drug instead of Prostap called Ryqco. However, by the time that medication was issued which took around ten days, I hadn’t actually bled since the 26th feb so I declined to take the other medication and I haven’t bled since. I’m also on add back HRT- Tibolone. I actually love this medication which I why, despite the earlier bleeding, I was reluctant to take the other drug. It has done wonders for my mood after being on and off anti-depressants for pmdd. I’m on it for a hysterectomy so the added bonus of feeling calmer and less anxious is life-changing. Good luck with it x

I had an injection to switch of ovaries with in about a day my mood had dropped and declined aparently I was told tibelone only really helps hot flushes not mood. My dr has increased my other meds and now I’m feeling more normal and me again. I told my endo nurse am very sensitive to drugs and she was like symptoms don’t start until after two weeks no for me by that evening on the first day I experienced hot flushes the next day mood changed I felt like the endo nurse hadn’t listened to my concerns and asked if I had a cpn or social worker. I said no I. Said haven’t been under mental health since August September 2021 I said I haven’t needed to and she was reluctant to think I would have symptoms so soon. I felt like she was saying other people don’t for two weeks so I should be the same. Little do they know I may well be autistic as waiting for an assessment and I probably have fibromyalgia so drug sensitivity for me happens quickly.

I had monthly prostap injunction, first period afterwards was bad. After that, no bleeding or pain, but did get hot flushes and insomnia so was given hrt patches which have really helped. (9 months on , its the best I've felt in years. Having excision surgery next month.

I was on prostap for 6 months. I used to have a very light bleed once a month for 5 days. I had the add-back tibolone like Kittykat1919 as mine was also in prep for a hysterectomy. I had some hair thinning on mine as well.
