Utrogestan

Does anyone take Utrogestan? I was looking into bio identical progesterone as I've never tolerated the mini pill well. Dr has suggested mirena after my lap but I've heard so many bad things.

I’ve not heard of Utrogestan used in women that haven’t gone through menopause….. there is also a shortage of it in some areas so I don’t think it can be prescribed pre menopausal. I had it after my total hysterectomy for a while but I didn’t get on with it however lots of other women find it very helpful but again I don’t know if it can be used prior to menopause xx

I have just started on utrogestan, I've always had issues with other forms of progesterone. I'm peri menopausal so you can get it before menopause. I was prescribed it by my consultant though not GP.

How are you finding it so far? Any side effects? What dose are you on please? I've been told 200mg to begin with.

So far I've been able to tolerate it! I've been started on 100mg, but can go up to 200mg if I need to. My mood has been much better, pain not quite so bad. I have slept a little better too. I think I will ask to go up to 200mg to see if it helps more with the pain, but so far so good, I have seen an improvement.

Great news thanks for letting me know. This gives me hope. I'm dreading starting it as hormones usually make me crazy and low mood! Also scared it affects sleep, but great to hear yours is better. I know I need to try it as I've got severe endo and I need to try to slow down growth.

Utrogestan is the go-to progesterone now for most women as it's made from yams and not synthetic. It's better for your body. Most women in peri menopause are on it now as it's advocated by Louise Newson and her clinic. If you are starting out with it you'll be placed on it sequentially alongside estrogen gel or patches. You do still have a period every month whereas the coil stops your period. The coil is great for many women as it provides progeston (synthetic) at the area most needed. Lots of women prefer utrogestan who cannot tolerate other progestons. You will just have to see how you go. There's no problem getting it now. Good luck x

Thanks so much for this info, very useful. My Consultant never mentioned estrogen, I still have uterus and ovaries so would I need it? Recent bloods showed high estrogen must be die to endo. I dont think im peri meno. I will give it a go and hopefully tolerate it better than the mini pill x

Not suitable if you have a peanut allergy. Some women find it much more tolerable and it can be taken orally or if that’s not great then vaginally ( try Louise Newson’s website for info on bio identicals and progesterone on that one ). I don’t find progesterone easy and never have but now use cyclogest instead which has been the best version for me. It’s prescribed off indication on this but specialist decision on this one was the right way to go. Check out the difference between progesterone intolerance and resistance to understand what you might be experiencing.
