I had a hysterectomy a few years ago. I had keyhole surgery with absolutely no problems afterwards. So good luck with your op! Just one warning - I seem to have put on weight since my op, but maybe I’m just eating too much!?

So glad to hear all went well with your operation. I have large fibroids and it looks like I will be having a hysterectomy next year. I just wanted to ask did you have large fibroids? I’m incredibly scared at the thought of the operation and thought they could only do an abdominal hysterectomy for fibroids so the idea of keyhole surgery sounds a lot less invasive. Many thanks x

Hi Emmalou, I didn’t have fibroids, but a large ‘lump’ - the size of a grapefruit - on an ovary. It was a big relief as it was non-cancerous. So I had both ovaries and a hysterectomy in the same keyhole op. I was fine after the op and went home the next day. So I do hope your surgeon is going to carry out a keyhole op. Good luck!

Thanks so much Annie for your reply. I’m so relieved it was non cancerous and your surgery went well x

Hi

I had hysterectomy last Friday. Started as laparoscopic/vaginal but ended up with abdominal. I had fibroids on the outside of my uterus. I’m doing ok but it’s a big operation I can’t lie. I came home on day 3 morning and didn’t get to my room after op until 8pm that day so I wasn’t in long. Moving around is slow. I need help with lots of things like picking things up. Not supposed to stand for long. Anyway once I’m recovered I’m sure it will be worth it. I’ve been on strong pain meds but aim to start weaning off once I can have ibuprofen as I’m on blood thinning injections for 10 days. Just make sure you have some good support when you have had it done and have things to occupy you. I’m not a day sleeper so even after 5 days it’s already boring. First 2 days are hard. I feel more positive now.

Good luck 🍀 with whatever you chose Lx
