Will IUD removal potentially start a period early?

Hello, I'm at the end of my tether and so I'm getting my IUD out. I think it's the root of all my issues as tests keep coming back negative.

I've had it for over a year and its not stopped my cycle. I still go through all the crap just with a pathetically light flow. I'm going to be due on within days when of getting it out and I'm hoping it will trigger my period as it currently falls on a very inconvenient date. Does anyone know, or have experience of the removal kick starting a period early? I know it's different for everyone, I'm just looking for a bit of hope.

Hi 👋

I had mine removed today and it has started some bleeding but I suspect this is from the procedure itself.

I’ve no idea if it will translate into a full period but can try to keep you posted. I hope it works out for you - it sounds as though you could really use some relief. 💛

thank you for your reply. I hope you're not in too much pain and discomfort. My period will be due approx 3 days after, but I'm praying earlier 🙏 get the horror of it out of the way over the weekend. Fingers crossed! 💛

Thank you. It was a bit of a car crash. I had gone in as was diagnosed with PCS following a scan but my coil had run out so she offered to replace it.

We got as far as removal. I couldn’t cope with the stabbing pain of insertion so now have to have a general. My undercarriage is ruined from having kids and so I’ve now got to weigh up whether to have a second repair to this. (The first one went wrong).

I wasn’t quite ready to face all of that. They were more interested in the coil and tear than the PCS I’d gone in for. Who the hell knows?!

Apparently my coil was dislodged anyway so it could all be that. Very sore and sorry for myself. Im so embarrassed I cried at the hospital. But it did feel as though they were discussing my car tether than me!

oh sorry to hear all this. You are going through hell, not nice. I hope the pains ease up. Its hot water bottle weather anyway so wrap up snug and warm. The coil could be to blame. Don't feel embarrassed admit crying, crying is needed sometimes 🤗 I loved my first one it worked a treat. My second, it was fine ininitially but then caused issues. I had a few years break and after 2 surgeries I gave in to the pressure and got another and gone downhill since. I hope you feel better soon x

Hi. When I had mine removed my period started 4-5 days later. The nurse said of your a really hormonal person it can come back straight away. But for some people it takes weeks. I'm obviously very hormonal 😂 Also removal is very quick and painless unlike having it inserted

thanks for your reply. Mine haven't stopped and I'm just hoping the removal might trigger the one due on a few days early. Otherwise I'm not going to be in a fit state for a work event. I reckon I'm very hormonal, so if yours started a few days later then there's hope it'll trigger mine early 🙏 Thanks
