Hi I just been to my gyne appointment today and she put me on prostap?! I'm 27 and currently having 2 week periods for the past 5 yrs and I've been diagnosed with pcos in the past and IDA ( iron deficiency anemia) she said she doesn't know if they will consider a hysterectomy but with the struggle I'm having with my periods and also not wanting children as I already got 2 and do not want anymore period also with the big issue I have and anxiety I get with my periods I want a hysterectomy to happen but I need to know as the gyne said u do and dont get periods! Now I'm confused =/ if it's a injection to stop the ovaries and shut them down ......why does it causes periods still or bleeding to me this seems odd and shouldn't be happening I'm scared now that I've had my first prostap injection as I dont know wat to expect I need advice please! As I dont want any periods or bleeding to happen whilst on this so called treatment she has given me it is also the 3 months injection and I'll be getting my last injection in November time just need to know does it stop PERIODS OR NOT!
Prostap does it causes periods or not! - Endometriosis UK
Prostap does it causes periods or not!
Also I been getting period pain and symptoms ever since I have gotten the injection today is the NORMAL =/ or not as I do not like it as it's making me think I'm going to come on also does prostap cause a period to start early gyne didnt tell me this! I'm not due till another week .....
You should not have your period on Prostap xxx
Ok but I'm just confused as most women have periods still but I'm getting told u dont! I'm not due on my first period yet as I just had 2 wks of a withdrawl bleed from norethisterone last month! I really don't want the period to start the injection is called prostap 3 11.25mg
Normally, you will get a bleed after your first injection.
The drug in the injection stops the production of all hormones by the pituitry gland, the bit in your brain that controls all your hormones. The drug binds to a chemical called gonadotrophin-releasing hormone receptors or GnRH receptors. This tells the brain to stop making new hormones.
But, it can't get rid of hormones, it just stops them being made, so in the first 2 weeks of injection, all the hormones already in your body have to leave your body, which means youe estrogen and progesterone levels will drop. This is what happens during a natural period, in fact the drop in hormones is what happens naturally during your cycle and goes "hey body have a period."
So the drop in hormone levels caused as they leave the body brings on a period. Once this has stopped, Prostap will then stop your periods after then, as your body basicalaly goes into menopause and stops producing hormones.
Having a period after your first injection is completely normal, often woman will have a worsening of pain in the first 2 weeks as they have a period, this is called a post injection flair. Afterwards, as hormone levels decrease futher, many woman find some benifit from these injections. I've been on them 6 months now and after the first 6 weeks I found my symptoms got dramatically better. Like any medication it takes a while to kick in as a lot has to happen for them to work, but in the long run most clinical trials have demonstrated significant improvement in symptoms.
I dont know if my body had enough time to release or build up hormones! Due to coming of norethisterone last month and having withdrawal bleed for 2 weeks this month from the 3rd till the 16th =/ and with having this injection today I really do not want a period to happen I'm actually scared as I havent a clue wat to expect
You will still have some hormones even if you're on norethisterone...which is itself is a hormone. As I said, you will have a bleed after your first injection, after which they stop.
Thanks x btw do the cause weight gain as I really do not want this to happen .....but so u all know before I got this injection today last month I was on norethisterone for 30 days then I had 2 weeks of bleeding from the 3rd of this month till the 16th of this month! I'm just wondering as I'm not due my first period again yet will this injection stop that period from starting?
Sorry I came off withdrawal bleeding 18th this month =/
Hi I had prostap for 4 moths and bled every day but I have fibroids so
I stopped The injections and I just take northisterone now but I am a lot older than you I had no other side effects from prostap apart from heavy bleeding no hot sweats or menopause symptoms I’m 56 and still bleed which is a real nuisance 😩 good luck x
Wow! Well the gyne told me it stops periods so if it supposed to do that then why on earth is it still making women bleed and gave periods that's is just a disclaimer and misleading if it does make me bleed or have a period I'll be ringing my dr or gyne up as I do not want the periods anymore due to my situation
I've been on injection since Feb and been spotting every day since then. Decided to have hysterectomy now as I think this is worse than the heavy periods caused by my fibroids. My consultant has said it is possible to still bleed. At least I had a break from bleeding before the injections 😩 I had been having injection every four weeks they have changed it to twelve weeks now, due again in three weeks so I will see what happens. They have told me to keep on it now until I have my hysterectomy which is looking like Jan. Will be glad when it's all over.
I've not had my period yet and was due yesterday and I had prostap3 last Thursday! I been getting period pains and discomfort tightness in my abdomen on and off and less white discharge now and again....
I was given prostap 3 ( 3 months injection )
I know you all commented over a month ago but I just wanted to say I have had one Prostap injection to supposedly stop my periods until I have my fibroids removed in November. So far it has been way worse than the heavy periods I was getting before. I feel so poorly, constantly bleeding, the worst headaches that do not go and the occasional hot sweat. I’m so miserable I just don’t know what to do!
Hi there I have endometriosis, and I was put on prostap last year May was going well until last week I started bleeding. Hopefully this won't be the same for you
