First period after laproscopy

Good morning everyone. After a night of barely sleeping due to terrible pain I'm hoping someone can help/ share their experience as I'm really struggling at the moment.

I had laparoscopic surgery at the end of September which confirmed endo. It was at the base of my bladder, pouch of Douglas ( I've never heard of it) left ovary and on some sacral nerves. I also had a mirena coil fitted. Post surgery I felt okay, I rested and really tried to take care of myself and didn't have to take any pain relief except paracetamol twice.

My period arrived on Saturday ( when it was due) and it's like hell has unleashed. My period flow is a lot lighter , but I am in so much pain all in my lower back, which is where I usually get my endo pain. I'm on day 4 and the pain isn't easing up, a hot water bottle is the only thing keeping me sane at the moment. Im also passing quite a bit of tissue as well, sorry TMI! The pain is also travelling down the back of my legs and it's making me feel so rotten.

Is this to be expected ? I feel like my pain is worse than before surgery. Maybe I was being naive but I didn't expect this and im hoping I haven't made things worse. The surgeon just told me to expect bleeding/ spotting for the next 3-4 months from the coil but nothing about the pain. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

Yes this is totally normal, your surgeon should have warned you that your first period would be horrifically painful. I think it might be more pianful than normal for a couple of times then it should get better. Your surgeon should have flagged this up because it would be very frightening/depressing if you hadn't been told to expect it. Dont worry it's usually just the first. THings will get better. XXX

Thank you , this is reassuring to hear. I was worried I made a mistake with the surgery and had made things worse. This puts my mind at ease xx

Glad to reassure you it's such a stressful time. Really sorry your medical team didn't give you a warning. You will feel rubbish for about 6 weeks tbh but then you should feel much better. xx
