so this isn’t really a question, more of an awareness post - I have endometriosis and had investigative surgery in June last year, where they found a lot of endo tissue around my womb, they removed all they could see, and although my periods and day to day pains didn’t get any better, but I finally had an answer after 12 years of suffering. After this diagnosis, me and my partner decided we would start trying to conceive, we had no luck to start with, however in the middle of June this year I had a painless but VERY heavy what I thought at first was a period, I knew something wasn’t right due to me not feeling my usual pain, and although I have heavy periods this was extreme. I run with a friend that’s a nurse, and she suggested that I took a pregnancy test, to my absolute amazement it was positive. I called the doctors who suggested I was miscarrying, went for a scan at the hospital and blood tests and was diagnosed with a UPL (unknown pregnancy location), they told me there was a fluid sack in my womb, but no heartbeat, and my tubes looked clear - so we left the hospital very confused. After more hormone tests my levels had risen, meaning that I was still pregnant. A week later I returned for another ultrasound, where they found a 6cm ectopic pregnancy in my left tube, and a cyst on my right ovary. This then turned into an emergency surgery to remove the ectopic pregnancy, my left fallopian tube & the cyst. The surgeon came to see me after the surgery and informed me that the endometriosis tissue had come back much worse, and had caused the ectopic pregnancy, as it had attached to my tube and blocked the pregnancy from travelling to my womb. So PLEASE if you have endometriosis & are trying to get pregnant, the first sign that you are, please go and get checked straight away, get as many scans as possible & DO NOT let them leave you a week between scans! I hope that nobody has to go through this, but I understand it’s a lot more common than we all think. And if you do go through anything like this, please talk about it, I promise it helps…

I have had painful periods for years and was told would get better after having a child and had to go on the pill quite young. When we started trying for a family I had a reputed ectopic ten miscarriages and a further ectopic with no endo diagnosis. It's very worrying for people that it causes ectopic pregnancies and j feel quite hurt that instead of looking at this they tested me for every imaginable sexually transmitted diseases of which I had none and that was end of tests.

Thank you for posting this to share awareness, and I am so sorry you had to go through this. I only found this post as you commented on my post once about taking Maca root and you said you was about to try something new, so I clicked on your profile to see if you had provided an update.

I had surgery in January and was told that most of the time you have 5 years before it comes back. We are about to start trying ourselves, but very scary to hear that yours came back in a year and affected your tubes. Was it found on your tubes previously or was this a new place?

Wishing you all the best luck for your next try. x

Hi,

Thank you! It’s incredibly scary how fast it can come back, previously it wasn’t found near my tubes, so these must have been new patches, or ones that weren’t visible at the time of my original surgery. I do wish you the best of luck on your journey to conceive! x
