Hi

I had my surgery around 7 weeks ago and was just wondering when I can start exercising properly again?

I’m still quite sore and weak but would like to slowly build up exercising but don’t want to cause any damage.

thanks

Hi, you can now start slowly building up your exercise tolerance. I started exercising 2.5half weeks after mine, slowly but gradually. If you feel more tired or painful you reduce the exercise. Just listen to your body 😉

thank you so much for your reply - I think I’ll start slowly building it up. I got conflicting answers from my GP/nurse though so was a bit unsure

Hi,

I started walking around 4 weeks and then back to my exercise classes at 10 weeks but very gently and I told the instructors so they were aware. Just take it slow and see how you get on. I do yoga and Pilates so very core heavy so I just made sure I took it easy to start with. X

Thanks for your response!

I also started walking again, although not very far, around 4 weeks. I’m still waiting for one of my incisions to heal but will start building up movement now anyway

I understand and it's very normal to get conflict opinions. I had my surgery done privately and I am a very active person (gym ,cycle , boxing) so my surgeon just said to take it easy... I didn't go back to boxing at 2.5 half weeks, I started with weight lifting and I half the weights I was lifting and being very mindful of my scars. I am a nurse myself and the main thing is listening to your body, some areas of the scar can be more painful because they cut trough muscle, and of course the sensation of feeling bloated and uncomfortable can last past the 7 weeks, but exercise helps for sure. Remember you are doing great and any type of exercise even if it is just walking it's already a big step.

And well done for everyone else you had laparoscopy and is in the process of recovering, we are all amazing!

Keep going 😉

thanks for your reply!

And yes definitely, I still feel bloated etc.

I was also worried about my incision as one hadn’t healed yet but will see how I get on.

Thank you
