pain relief/ GP advice

Hi all,

I recently moved and have a new GP and they won't Prescribe adequate pain relief for my endometriosis, I was given oramorph by my last GP for breakthrough pain. new Gp also hasn't done my referral to the local endo team as they said I needed an up to date ultrasound, I've had this and it came back normal so she isn't referring me.

I was diagnosed several years ago with endo and I am having a terrible flare at the moment.

Any advice on how to navigate this would be really helpful.

Thanks

hello sorry you are having a hard time with your new GP. If there are others doctors in the practice I would try one of them to see if you can get your medication. Failing that I would definitely put a complaint in to the practice manager, you were prescribed medication by your previous GP to help your symptoms so there shouldn’t be a problem getting it on prescription again.

I would speak to a different GP at the practice - considering you literally have a record of a confirmed diagnosis this is absolutely ridiculous from them!

that’s awful, I’m so sorry: I had a similar situation and sadly had to complain to get adequate relief prescribed.

I would also complain about the lack of referral: ultrasound is not required for an endo referral, it’s just part of the process that they need to rule out things like cysts, not rule-in active endo.

Complain to PALS: if there is an alternative GP then definitely try and see them, or ask the Practice Manager if they have a women’s health or Pain specialist GP (some do have these, but not always advertised) . I would also seek a Pain Clinic referral as well as an endo referral: I have found GPs more willing to prescribe pain relief once it has been approved by the pain clinic. They may also be able to access things like acupuncture for you.

hi all, thank you for your replies.

I had a terrible consultation with her (GP) on Friday, where she told me that pain relief of that level is for cancer and end of life. I thought I had explained my case well but found myself disbelieving my own symptoms. she would - reluctantly prx Tranenamic acid and also told me to have a coil, despite my reluctance to this due to past trauma.

There is a womans health dr at the practice but I am worried about going and concerned that they will be very hormone focused. Its such a mine field.

It really was soul destroying tbh. Its a 50 wk wait for the endo team and so I am at my wits end really as to what to do.

I will seek pain clinic referal, thats a good time.

Sorry for the rant, just really drained and low from it all.

A x
