endometrial ablation mistake

So I just had an ablation today as part of a hystropaphy investigation. Rather painful but okay. But nobody explained that it leaves you practically infertile. I feel so stupid. She asked did i have children I said one. She said avoid getting pregnant. I did not take this as you can never can get pregnant again! Nobody has ever explained this to me!

So here I am this evening with the sudden awareness that I am forever one child. She didn't ask is my family complete. I feel like my choice has been taken from me.

I just thought my periods may get better and that pregnancy thing was a temporary issue. How did I miss this vital piece of information? I am so dumb. Please make sure you understand before agreeing to stuff. Ask questions, I wish I did. I assumed and I got it wrong.

hello I had endometrial ablation twice and was told that it’s not for women who want to conceive, but I was also never told that if you want children then you don’t go ahead with the procedure. However I knew all of this and I was so desperate to get rid of the heavy bleeding.

I really think that it’s up to us to research as much as we can about any kind of operation as a consultation with a doctor is a quick 10 minutes if you are lucky.

I hope the procedure worked for you, my symptoms have now started to come back 🤮

I'm so very sorry to hear this, it should have been explained to you. They should give you all of the information,especially as, it leaves you unable to have children. I would personally put a complaint in. Again I'm so very sorry, sending you a big hug too x❤️😔

That's sweet of you, thanks. I am feeling a little less raw today. I think she thought I had been through it with my doctor or other professional. I can see it from her perspective too. I had waited so long for the appointment and that I felt I must get as much out of it as possible.

With all honesty I am done with planned babies. I just felt that maybe there might be a happy accident in my early forties. It is a terrible shock to realise you cannot have more. I know some poor ladies have that terrible news without any babies to hold of their own, I am very fortunate.

I just wanted to share as it happened so easily. I feel so daft, I'm sure many of you are going how on earth did that happen, but the the wider context was lost on me in the pressure of the moment. My usual judgmental head was gone in a cloud of panic. I thought the whole procedure was off anyway as someone got my date of birth wrong on the paperwork!

It is best that I do not have periods, for ten years without them, I had good health. Then it came back with a vengeance. I have been living period to period with about two days break, no energy or focus. To live a better life with my daughter is going to be worth it.

I totally understand and no you're not daft at all. My periods are shocking, and I'm trying out the progesterone only pill at the moment, as I want to avoid other options if possible. Including the ablation. Hope you have a lovely day xx

I'm so sorry to hear about your news and no don't leave all the blame on you in my experience Dr's spout a lot of babble quite fast and I think its to shut us up and bombard us. It should have been reiterated by medical professionals at every stage so as to give you the chance to confidently say yes or no.

Ablation is being mentioned to me now and I have no idea what it means or how if at all it affects my quality of life. I'm 45 and never had kids but I'm glad you are brave enough to share your experience and I'm more aware now. Sending you lots of love

I’m a little confused, I’ve had ablation a number of times and was never told that I couldn’t conceive after, in fact ablation of endometriosis was suggested in order to help me conceive. Is a hysteroscopy different from normal ablation or have I got the wrong procedure? Maybe your best bet is to contact your GP or your surgeon just to clarify…or you may have that second baby! 😉🫶🏻

ablation on the endometrium (lining of uterus) is different from ablation of endometriosis (ie endometrial tissue growing elsewhere)

I think that's completely wrong they haven't explained that to you you shouldn't have that taken from you and as someone else said they should've at least mentioned it once if not multiple times its a serious decision especially if you wouldn't consent to the procedure if knowing that was the case. If that happened to me I'd debate taking legal action lol. I cant imagine how you feel. Heart goes out to youAnnabel

Hi. I'm sorry you are going through this 😔. I'm a one child ablation person too, although in my case it was an informed choice. I had EA a few months ago. I was told in no uncertain terms, do not get pregnant again as the womb becomes a scarred and hostile environment for a pregnancy. And if you become pregnant it can cause major foetal abnormalities and usually early loss.

I don't understand how this bit was skimmed over, it's pretty crucial.
