post-op bloating

hi,

I have endometriosis and Adenomyosis and had a total hysterectomy about 8 weeks ago. The surgery was quite complicated and took a long time due to the amount of scar tissue that had to be removed. As they didn’t remove my ovaries I’m now taking dienogest to help prevent the Endo from coming back. Generally I’ve recovered from surgery and seem to tolerating the dienogest well, but I still have problems with bloating that are far worse than before the op, and can often need to open my bowels 3-4 times in the morning. My diet currently is very bland, I find that any kind of spice or gluten in the form of bread or grains make the symptoms significantly worse. Has anyone else experienced this post op?

Hi, am about 10 weeks from my hysterectomy but had my ovaries out too. I read somewhere that the bloating and swelling can take up to 6 months to settle as there has been alot of trauma so takes time to settle. Some days I really struggle with swelling and pain and I used to be able to hold going to the loo but now if I can't get to the loo as soon as I really need it I end up in pain across the abdomen and in particular around the incision sites.

I mentioned it to my consultant when I went back and he didn't seem to be worried about it.

Have you been back to your consultant? Maybe speaking to your doctor's might give some ideas too.

Hope it settles soon x

Thanks everyone for you responses. Sorry to hear so many of you are going through similar things and how it’s getting you down.

On the whole I’m starting to feel a bit better, but am still so tired and the bloating is still a bit of a problem. I’ve also decided to try stopping the dienogest for a couple of weeks to see if it makes any difference. Was starting to feel the anxiety creep back in and for me this is worse than managing the other symptoms.

Seeing my consultant tomorrow so will discuss with him whether it’s worth going back on it again or not.

Hello!

I am 10 weeks and I also still have this bloating. It’s worse as the day goes by. At the end of the day my stomach can be so bloated I feel pressure on my diagram. I also started the dinogest and it’s making me feel ill, anxious, irritable and low, tired. Like you say it’s worse than dealing with the symptoms. My bloating definitely is not linked. I have heard the the bloating can last months depending on your body. Hope you feel better soon
