Canker Sores & Endo - Help!

Hi Everyone,

I'm using this as a last resort because I wanted to know if anyone else deals with the same problem. I've had endometriosis for years, but in the last two years I've been dealing with constant canker sores (mouth ulcers).

They happen throughout the month and are so painful. Sometimes I'll have five at the same time, on my tongue and pretty much anywhere on my mouth.

I've tried everything, and they do seem to get worse when I stop my pill, but it's pretty much a constant thing that's impacting my diet and general wellbeing.

Has anyone else dealt with the same? Is there an alternative treatment that doesn't involve contraceptives? Would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.

hi, was interested to read your post, I suffer the same not only in my mouth but inside my nose too, I never had a spell when I don’t have any. Vaseline helps with the sores in my nose but haven’t found much to help with the ones in my mouth. Sorry I’ve not got any help or advice but just wanted to let you know you weren’t alone with this. I’ve always put it down to endo affecting our immune systems. I’m also in chemical menopause at the moment with add back HRT and it’s since I’ve been on this it’s gotten worse. If you find anything that’s helps please let me know xx

I think I read somewhere canker sores can be caused by a vitamin deficiency One of the B vitamins, look it up and give that a try. If it is caused by that supplements should make a difference.

Hi - I get the same - sores in mouth and also cold-sore virus on lips - plus awful bowels - such an evil combination!!!! Over decades I've found answers!! 100mg B6 Daily. Lysine 1000mg Daily. And get the Aloe Vera ulcer treatment- there's a mouth wash and a direct spray - truly works a dream!!!

That sounds painful! I used to get lots of mouth ulcers too along with cold sores around my period. I think it's down to the immune system not being strong. I changed to an anti-inflammatory diet to help with my endo symptoms, but the benefit of doing that was it also seemed to help my immune system and reduced the amount of cold sores and mouth ulcers I got too.

hiya I feel for you - it is soooooo not fun!

I had very bad mouth ulcers for years - always worse before my period or when run down/stressed. The main thing that sorted them was getting b12 levels checked - I have a type of anaemia (pernicious anaemia) where you can’t absorb b12 via the gut and my main symptoms were fatigue, recurrent thrush and mouth ulcers.

I have b12 injections every 10 weeks at my gp surgery to (mostly) correct it, but even if you don’t have this type of anaemia just having low b12 (eg if you are veggie/vegan or under lots of stress) can give you those symptoms - a good vitamin b12 spray from a health food shop that you squirt under your tongue daily can help boost levels quickly

When mouth ulcers do flare up, I find that gengigel gel and mouthwash (available from most chemists/healthfood shops) helps soothe. Stay really hydrated by drinking through a straw if liquids are painful, if chewing is hard make nourishing broths and soups to drink when they are warm not hot, and sometimes I get a good powdered vitamin, wholefood, probiotic and mineral supplement I can add to liquid to give me a boost - Terranova Life Drink is pricey but when ulcers are terrible at least I can drink this through a straw and get some proper nutrients.

Using Weleda Ratanhia toothpaste is less irritating than my normal one- I think they even do a plant gel toothpaste that is gentler still.

I have to totally quit any booze and sugar if there’s the slightest hint of ulcers! The GP gave me some Hydrocortisone 2.5mg buccal tablets that you put under your tongue which only seem to help if you do that right at the start of mouth ulcers flare ups.

In general I think all the healthy lifestyle stuff suggested by others on here such as anti-inflammatory diets to help Endo will help with the ulcers.

Good luck ♥️
