Does anyone have experience of mirena coil? I'm approaching 50 and my GP has suggested switching to that from Gedarel (combined pill), which I've been on for years with no problems. I've never liked the idea of the coil but they won't prescribe Gedarel after 50... Hopefully I'll have reached the menopause without knowing it but I'm dreading having to stop the medication 😦

Hi hedgehog, I have had a mirena coil twice now. The first one I had i felt wasn't fitted correctly and I had it out with in a month as I was in a lot of pain. The second one was fitted after my lap and it's been brilliant. 5 years with no major problems. I'm about to have another lap and they are going to put a new one in during the procedure. All I can suggest is try it. It's easily removed if it's not working for you. Good luck 😁
I have had one for many years, it has helped with the heaviness , and I rarely get a period , give it a go.
I second what they have said already. I’m also 50 and on mirena coil after a laparoscopy (plus progesterone only pill: desogestrel) I’d give it a go if I were you.
