hello, I have endometriosis and PCOS and am really struggling with frequent UTIs. I have already had 2 in less than a month and require antibiotics every time.
Has anybody else struggled with this? Any remedies,? I am finding it really depressing and isolating
Thank you

Hi there, I was the same and went through a spell like that. A couple of things helped, a daily actimel and Mannose powder. The actimel helped to settle things down after all the antibiotics. Maybe a glass of cranberry juice every day too. Hope that helps, I know its really miserable. Xx
I feel you! UTIs are draining physically and emotionally. I went through a year of frequent UTIs needing antibiotics each time. I avoid drinking juice as this was one of my triggers along with a few other things. Keep a diary to see if you notice a pattern. I'd also speak to the Dr about it being a hormonal issue, this is something I'm navigating with my GP.
Hi there, I have had this happen regularly, and have had to take antibiotics once, but I looked into it and ever since have done the following and haven't had a UTI for a long time now.
- Drink a lot and regularly - especially in winter with heating
- Go to the loo regularly, the minute you feel like you need it, never hold it in
- Always pee immediately after sex and have a gentle clean up a few times the next day too
- Never use any soap or scented products, water's fine
- ALWAYS change immediately after the gym, exercise or if you've been soaked through because of the rain
- If you feel hot, immediately change into something lighter. If you're feeling too hot, then downstairs probably is and this means problems potentially. Long maxi dresses are good for avoiding this problem as you don't have to wear tights or leggings with them
- Always wear cotton underwear or underwear with a cotton gusset
- Don't wear underwear in bed or anything confining around there
- Use non-sensitive washing powders potentially
- Avoid tight clothing, even if it means you buy a lot of underwear that's many sizes above your size, it usually won't be baggy, will still look good but won't constrict you. Only wear leggings or tights several sizes above what you usually wear, as constricted tummy often means unhappiness.
- Have a balanced diet, or don't go unhealthy for too long
- For me, I often feel the start of a UTI with a special kind of funny tummy, so get to recognise this
- If you suspect the start of a UTI, do all of the above to the max and don't plan a day out where you might not be able to get to the loo enough - holding things in just worsens it
- If one is starting, Canesten thrush cream applied externally round there seems to also help, might be because it's antibacterial.
- Destress regularly if you can, take it easy and treat it as a slightly sick day, give yourself a break and it'll go faster.
Generally, if I follow all of this, I never get a UTI, and can stave off the start of one. The main culprits for it starting with me - I had the start of one in December - is when I've been out with friends or doing visits for a few days which can mean going into overheated rooms, not being able to drink regularly and not being able to go to the loo regularly and also wearing tighter smarter clothing, all of which is a recipe for disaster.
