Today I travelled up to London to consent for surgery. On my way I was a bit indifferent to the whole thing, perhaps a little annoyed that I needed to go in for a face to face when it could be easily done over the phone (in my opinion).
During the actual consultation however, I suddenly found myself quite overwhelmed…
The senior fellow listed off possible complications, and additional measures they had decided to take (as my case is it quite complex). I was also handed a urine bottle to fill, a bit difficult as I had just been to the toilet…
When I left, I was completely flustered… I forgot my prescription and only remembered once on the train… thankfully they kindly agreed to send it to me in the post, once I was able to remember my address!
The whole thing has got me thinking though… With 50% of cases returning less than five years after surgery… Am I doing the right thing?
