I have my first lap booked in 2 weeks, and have just noticed that I should be due on my period that same day. No one at the hospital asked when my period was when booking the surgery, and there is nothing in my paperwork about when my last period was etc. My mum also had a lap (for fibroids) when she was on her period.
However, I am seeing contradicting messages online - so wondered what others experiences are? Will I be fine to still have the lap? If you did have your period, do I just wear a pad or am I able to wear my menstrual cup as I usually would? Was your period pain worse or better?
Advice would be appreciated! Thanks

It is absolutely fine and some surgeons prefer it as your pelvis will be inflamed at that time. But you won't be able to wear a cup as they need to manipulate your uterus by putting an instrument inside to view behind it.
Only a surgeon with a special interest in endo must do the lap so it would be worth finding out who it is, if you don't know already. Also have you had a scan as that is required prior to a lap?
That’s good - thank you! Okay no problem, I will stick to the pads then.
Yes he is a gynaecologist with a special interest in endo, so I’m hoping I can get some answers from this. I have gone through the NHS, but was referred to a private hospital. My consultant is the one performing the lap.
And yes, I have had 2 ultrasounds on my pelvis - both come back clear but the pain is getting progressively worse. Have also had a blood test to check my hormone levels which all come back within the normal ranges too.
I had a heavy period during my lap. Make sure you take pads with you (hospital pads are not great) and tell the nurses when they do the checks before. I wore a pad in my paper knickers into the surgery but woke up without on and on a sort of puppy pad: they remove it to catheterise ect.
I was on my period for mine and they said that's a good thing. I just wore a pad. They took it off anyway and I had a fresh one when I woke up. Don't worry about period. I hope it goes well.
