Had a laparoscopy on Monday, got told to take my bandages off yesterday. And I just don’t know if my belly button looks like it’s supposed to?

And how am I supposed to clean in there without disturbing it too much? :(

And also I’ve been bleeding (like a period I think) since my op, is that normal?

I had one last Sunday and just stopped bleeding yesterday. I think it's normal given all the rummaging they do, but if it doesn't stop let the hospital or your gp know.

My belly button incision is my worst too. I think let it scab over and heal, try not to poke it too much at first. I cleaned mine with a damp cotton bud but this made it bleed so I regret doing that. I think letting it clot and scab will protect it while it heals.

This is the method I used as well. It works better that way.

My belly button looked like it had had a stroke after the laproscopy! You can go to your GP any time to get it cleaned if you don’t want to do it yourself. They should put you top of their priority list as it’s post surgery checks

HiHope the laparoscopy went well for you?

I had something similar when I had my gallbladder out. Use sterile water to clean the area and maybe cotton buds very gently though, if it doesn't look like it's healing then contact the drs asap. I hate to say this but after my op my belly button doesn't look the same anymore 😔

Hope this has helped?

Hiya, I left my belly button alone for atleast 2 weeks, only carefully washed over it with water, not inside. After that, I carefully used a wet, clean cotton bud to clean it. I ended up going to the doctors because by week 3 it was stilly weeping due to a little bit of the stitch irritating it - it hadn’t finished dissolving haha. Hope you’re feeling ok! Also, bleeding is normal, I bled for atleast the first day and then resumed my “normal” cycle x

It will take a good couple of weeks to heal. Try to not get too much water in it and gently pat it dry. Don't be surprised if the bruise gets longer. A bruise will naturally drop down due to gravity. I'am 3 week post op and its now dried and bruise is going. It turned red wine colour, then black, back to red and now yellow.

I used cotton wool buds just to clean surface.

Hope you feel better soon, don't over do things.
