Hi. I was in overnight which I think is more the norm although I did get a fair bit of work done and lost a lot of blood during surgery. I’d recommend resting a lot in first couple of weeks. I didn’t rest enough and ended up back in hospital as opened the stitching at the top of the vaginal cuff. Really do take care of yourself in the early days as will make the longer recovery smoother. I had my bowel scraped, appendix removed, excision around rectum and pouch of Douglas as well as total hysterectomy. I was silly and didn’t rest enough so ended up back in hospital for 2 weeks with infections. I didn’t appreciate how major the surgery was so my own fault! Having keyhole is great as you also don’t have a big scar to mend as well. After a bit of a bumpy recovery I now feel great and been around 10 months now without endo pain so definitely worth it. X

Thank uI think I’ll be having all that done as well.

I think when they say u can come home u think it’s ok to be normal again, but I think they want u to still treat it like yr in hospital.

I am nervous, going thru bowel prep at the moment ! The joys !

Hi willywalk,

I just wanted to wish you all the best with your surgery tomorrow. From our experience when it comes to a laparoscopy you can usually go home either that day or the following day, however, I note you are having a hysterectomy as well, so I wouldn't like to guess the length of stay, however, I think your surgeon is best placed to provide this information to you.

I completely agree with Smokey2020 that you will need time to recover from the surgery, I myself have had two quite extensive surgeries and was home the next day but needed a couple of weeks rest to recover, so maybe keep that in mind when planning your recovery at home and what support you might need with this. Hi willywalk, good luck for tomorrow, I had a full hysterectomy and endo removed on the 2/3/22, I had to stay in for 2 nights so I would expect at least that, u will need at least 2 weeks of doing nothing and no lifting/bending for 6wks, I think the tiredness hits u, just walking up stairs was enough for me to have a granny nap 😂 but I can honestly say I've never felt better 😁 hope everything goes ok, look after yourself and listen to ur body xx

I had the same, I had my surgery a week ago. I had an epidural and then was put to sleep so they said at least a night's stay due to that. I went home late afternoon the next day. But my surgery also had no issues as they got it all off the bowel & did a full hysterectomy straightforward no surprises. Xx

HiI had a lap hysterectomy plus work on the bowel and urinary tract. The catheter came out in the morning and once I had three wees and a scan to check my bladder was empty I could go home. Never drank so much water in such a little time. My car journey home was an hour so I used a pillow over my tummy. I was fine.

I literally did nothing for a fortnight. I made myself cold drinks and went for little walks. I spent time lying on my bed or sitting in the chair downstairs. Its so hard and frustrating. It’s important to rest and let things heal.

How did your surgery go? Are you in UK? Just wondering if it’s common practice to have to take the bowel prep before a hysterectomy? Or is it because you have suspected bowel endo? Thanks and hope you’re feeling ok post-surgery.
