I’m new to taking the pill, and my doctor told me to take it for 3 months then have a week break then carry on however the packet days take for 21 days then 7 days off I don’t know what to do and my doctors aren’t any help, does anyone know if it’s safe for me to take it for 3 months

Hi, I used to take this and it sounds odd that they said 3 months, I would assume 3 weeks as you take the whole pack then have a week break. However, I sometimes used to take 2 packs back to back without a break, usually because I didn’t want to have my period when on holiday or something! And I didn’t get any problems doing that. There should be a leaflet in the box as well to read but if you’re really unsure keep calling the docs until you get someone to speak to, just to clarify with you x

Hi

I had microgynon to help with symptoms of endo and pelvic pain and other hormone related issues, hot sweats, crying a lot, bladder problems etc etc.

My gp told me to take it continuously so that I never had a period.

She said to me that if I felt I wanted a period to stop it for the stated number of days which I think was 7 days.

I felt really much better on micrgynon but then at 50, she stopped it and I went into a terrible severe menopause I think. Felt awful.

Anyway, taking microgynon with no break for months was absolutely fine for me.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bella099, many years ago I used to take it for 3 months then have a week break, they probably said this ti try and help u with the bleeding/pains, but if ur worried I would contact ur gp and just get them to clarify it for u, good luck xx

Hi!Regividon is fine to be taken continuously. Many doctors recommend doing this if you have painful periods or gynaecological problems. The packaging inserts still refer to the rigid ways the pill was designed to be taken. One reason this was designed this way was to instill confidence in women that the pill was safe as you still took a period, but the "period" you get on this week off is not a true period, it's just a withdrawal bleed. Lots of studies have confirmed you can in fact safely take the pill without a break continuously, as a his withdrawal bleed isn't actually required. The method your doctor has suggested involves taking 3 packs back to back and then take a week off, so you essentially have a 10 week cycle. It's also known as tricycling and is quite commonly recommended now 🙂.

Goodluck, I hope it helps you!
